Lodging Hotel Receipts

Following up on my post regarding increased hotel rates in Orange County, California, an EPJ reader sends along this link to a report on monthly hotel receipts in Texas

Comments the reader:

All you have to do is type in the city name and it will give you the data.

From what I hear Texas is the only one that has this.

Also I'm sure this tightens up competition a little, but it's unfortunate the state makes data like this available.

Actually the data the state of Texas requires hotels to disclose and then publishes is pretty amazing. I'm trying to understand what special interest was likely behind this requirement, my bet it's some hotel discount chain that wants to have an inside sense on how to price product.
