Donald Trump is now tied with Mike Huckabee for first place when Republicans are asked who they support for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012, according a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey.
Nineteen percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents questioned in the poll say that as of now, they'd be most likely to support Trump for next year's GOP presidential nomination. An equal amount say they'd back Huckabee.
Twelve percent say they'd support former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, who was the party's 2008 vice presidential nominee, with 11 percent backing former Massachusetts Gov. and 2008 White House hopeful Mitt Romney and the same amount supporting former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Seven percent say they are backing Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, another 2008 presidential candidate, with five percent supporting Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, who enjoys strong backing from many in the Tea Party movement. Everyone else registers in the low single digits.
Also of note in this poll is that Ron Paul is backed by 7% of voters, while a recent NBC/WSJ curiously failed poll failed to list him as a candidate for the Republican nomination.
Trump's overt positions include: mercantilism, protectionism, nationalism, militarism and fascism. Looking at history, that's a popular platform during economic depression, though still pretty stock-standard for American politics since FDR.
ReplyDeleteI would point out that the the Democratic/Republican political machine's longtime strategy is "to control the opposition, you lead the opposition". Explains Sarah Palin's involvement with the Tea Party. Is Trump just another false flag political ploy?
ReplyDeleteMr. Trump is a ruthless business man prone to gutting his opponents. I doubt that he and his ego would both fit in the oval office at the same time. At least Lee Iacocca, the former head of Chrysler, when asked if he harbored any presidential aspirations had the honesty to say that he had no business in the White House. I doubt Mr. Trump has the self awareness to make a similar call.
Whoever ends up as the Republican nominee needs to be Bold, Decisive, with a Plan to bring the US of A back - Economically, Internationally, etc. ...& with the strategy & ability to beat B.O.

the personalities. At the top of the list for me would be Chris Christy, Trump, Huckabee.
They didn't take Ronald Reagan seriously either.
ReplyDeleteFar too Americans will vote for a showbiz/showboat personality over substance & intellect. Case in point here: Sarah Palin having about 80% more support than Ron Paul.
