Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has been convicted on 17 of 20 counts against him.

Update 1: Chicago Sun-Times web site crashes on news.

Update 2: Tweets from Chicago Tribune reporter, Stacy St Clair:

After verdict was read, Rod turned to Patti and whispered: "I love you."

Patti Blagojevich clearly upset, leaning on brother.

Patti Blagojevich did not stand up when the jury exited. Neither did her brother who was hugging her. She kept on shaking her head "no."

Prosecutors ask Blagojevich to post bond and restrict his travel to the Northern District of Illinois. Judge will not rule today on bond.

Judge puts Blagojevich house up as collateral for bond. Places travel restrictions.

  1. Too bad Patrick Fitzgerald terminated the wiretaps when Blago began to talk to Rahm Emmanuel. I guess he was afraid of getting dirt on connected crony Emmanuel. Perhaps there is a future High Court appointement for Mr Fitzgerald in the future as payback from Mr Obama.

  2. Wait and see: Obama will pardon him the morning he exits the presidency.

  3. An example was made here. The example being if you aren't a player or have one whose watching your back don't mess with the machine operators

  4. Blagojevich has too much dirt on too many cronies. Either he 'unexpectedly' passes away before he can spill the beans or Obama promises him a pardon after he spends some time in a federal 'resort' penitentiary. He'll be taken care of, one way or the other.
