Hugh Hefner Dumped at the Altar

Eighty-five year old Hugh Hefner's marriage, scheduled for this weekend, to 25-year old Crystal Harris is off. There were to be 300 guests.

Hefner sent out a the following tweet announcing the news:
The wedding is off. Crystal has had a change of heart.
He added later:
The breakup is a heart breaker, but better now than after the marriage.
According to reports, Hefner will instead host a screening of "Runaway Bride."

With a cover featuring a calendar photo of Marilyn Monroe, Hefner put together the first issue of Playboy on the kitchen table in his Chicago apartment in 1953 at a cost of $600. It sold 51,000 copies -- enough to finance a second issue -- and led to a multimillion dollar international corporation, which Hefner recently took private, according to CNBC.

An old-time irascible Chicago bartender, Sid, who used to tend bar at Tavern on Rush and who passed away about 10 years ago, was a good friend of mine. He once told me of knowing Hefner when he was first launching his magazine and how, at the time, Hefner was trying to get various investors to put in $100 apiece into the magazine and that most of them turned Hefner down and thought the magazine had no chance.

  1. She must have really loved him, leaving him with only a broken heart--and not a half-empty wallet, too.

  2. The prenup offered her nothing for divorcing the old goat in a year.

  3. "There's been some great new TV dramas this year, like Boardwalk Empire and The Walking Dead. Talking of the walking dead, congratulations to Hugh Hefner, who is getting married at age 84 to 24-year-old beauty Crystal Harris. When asked why she was marrying him, she said, 'He lied about his age. I thought he was 94.' - Ricky Gervais
