  5. Nice! I might have to start listening to rap...

  6. I generally don't like rap music. Mostly because it's lyrics are poetic vanity set to a simple beat. However, like graffiti or urban art, it is quite a different thing when it exhibits intelligent valuable purpose.

  8. Yeah, I like this tune except for calling Limbaugh and Beck racists. I'm not a fan of either of them but I don't think either are racist.

  9. Maybe they're not racists, but their xenophobic rants and moron level discourse encourages idiots and racists.

When rap was first beginning to penetrate more rural markets in the late 80s, my first exposures as a teen fascinated me. By the time it matured, and was taken over by gangstas and relied on beats and misogyny to sell, it was crap. It's no wonder pop songs today often feature rap sections- it was original 20 years ago, now not so much.

Anyway, I argued at the time that it would soon be a huge market because it had something to SAY, just like the protest songwriters of the 70s. How right, and wrong, I was.

I actually have several Lupe Fiasco tracks on my iPod. I think he's one of the more talented and genuine of the current crop of hiphopsters. I never realized he was actually that cool!

  10. This is the same dishonest crap you get from any socialist loser, this guy said "Obama saw what happened in Gaza and he didnt do shit".

He didnt do shit ie. he did not intervene, besides all other issues most in here might disagree with Fiasco about, he does not even want less interventions. He just wants interventions "for the muslims". May he die, with the rest.

  11. Uh, I'm not sure he's much of a libertarian or cares at all for individual freedom. He's a collectivist that wants more and better collectivism not less of it. He's for individuals that want to conform to what he has determined the norm to be. His words are reminiscent of the rhetoric of the psychopath Che Guevara when he said "...let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love...". Lupe's message of love and peace is only for those that will conform to his ideology, everyone else can go to die and go to hell. I would argue that he does not get it--at all.

Following the QR tag in the video, this the message that it links along with a means for him to take a profit -- typical limo-socialist:

TO EVERY MAN, WOMAN & CHILD WE WANT AN END TO THE GLAMORIZATION OF NEGATIVITY IN THE MEDIA| WE WANT AN END TO STATUS SYMBOLS DICTATING OUR WORTH AS INDIVIDUALS| WE WANT A MEANINGFUL AND UNIVERSAL EDUCATION SYSTEM| WE WANT SUBSTANCE IN THE PLACE OF POPULARITY| WE WILL NOT COMPROMISE WHO WE ARE TO BE ACCEPTED BY THE CROWD| WE WANT THE INVISIBLE WALLS THAT SEPARATE BY WEALTH, RACE & CLASS TO BE TORN DOWN| WE WANT TO THINK OUR OWN THOUGHTS| WE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT| WE WANT CLARITY & TRUTH FROM OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS OR THEY SHOULD MOVE ASIDE| WE WANT LOVE NOT LIES| WE WANT AN END TO ALL WARS FOREIGN & DOMESTIC VIOLENCE| WE WANT AN END TO THE PROCESSED CULTURE OF EXPLOITATION, OVER-CONSUMPTION & WASTE| WE WANT KNOWLEDGE, UNDERSTANDING & PEACE| WE WILL NOT LOSE BECAUSE WE ARE NOT LOSERS, WE ARE LASERS!| LASERS ARE THE OPPOSITE OF LOSERS| LASERS ARE SHINING BEAMS OF LIGHT THAT BURN THROUGH THE DARKNESS OF IGNORANCE| LASERS SHED LIGHT ON INJUSTICE AND INEQUALITY| LOSERS STAND BY AND LET THINGS HAPPEN| LASERS ACT AND SHAPE THEIR OWN DESTINIES| LASERS FIND MEANING AND DIRECTION IN THE MYSTERIES ALL AROUND THEM| LASERS STAND FOR LOVE AND COMPASSION| LASERS STAND FOR PEACE| LASERS STAND FOR PROGRESSION| LASERS ARE REVOLUTIONARY| LASERS ARE THE FUTURE

  12. Seriously, I want to knock a few of you overdefensive hyperanal holier-than-thou pseudointellectuals upside the head. "calling Glenn Beck a racist?" Yeah, I'm not even going to bother to qualify this statement with any hard evidence, because it about the same as belaboring the point that the sky is blue: Glenn Beck is a damn racist. And really, WHO CARES anyway? But more on that in a moment, first...

Re: Beck/limbaugh races, gaza "dishonest crap":

Is everything that comes out of your mouth 100% correct all the time? So when you say something incorrect, foolish, or misunderstood, does it void out everything else you think or say? This is exactly how they want you to think. Instead of approaching it that way, listen to this song (which you might have a general inclination to dislike or avoid, or you're just not accustomed to)and LISTEN FOR THE SIMILARITIES with what you think. Now, repeat the same exercise with a bunch of country songs, rock songs, or some opinion show on a major TV network.

Now, do I need to be clearer about who you should be standing with? Are the people who you choose to listen to/spend your time right about what they say 100% of the time? Do they always see things your way? Probably not.

So why would you be so quick to disregard an artist who actually has a deeper understanding that something is not right and has the balls to say something about it, loudly? Why not seek to share your understandings with people like this, to influence them? It would be so much better than being a pseudointellectual, don't you think?

  13. I wholeheartedly agree with Matthew. One of the reason the elites can continuously exploit the serfs is that the serfs are pretty well programmed to look at other serfs and quickly analyze how they are DIFFERENT. Perhaps the serfs would be better served to evaluate what they have in COMMON with the other serfs and build from there.

NO ONE has all of the answers - but attacking some one who you probably agree with more than you disagree plays right in to the Divide and Conquer meme of TPTB.

  14. I'm with Matthew too.

When you find common ground with someone- Lupe called Obama the biggest terrorist in the world, questions 9/11, disses public schooling, calls voting an empty gesture, expresses tolerance for others, calls out lazy thugs, the MSM, big agriculture, the military-industrial-banking cartel...this is someone who would embrace at a worldview that explains the interconnections of these things. If you could sit with him and explain libertarianism to him (making the unfounded assumption that he is ignorant of it-his views seem to be pretty anarchistic) he would understand.

It is far easier to catch a fly with honey. By embracing and seeking to understand our leftist brethren, and using opportunities to point out the virtues of liberty, we can build a far stronger future of common interest.

  15. You guys confuse me. The topic was that this guy get's it. Since this is a libertarian leaning site, get it would mean that they "get it" from a libertarian perspective. The words to his rap and the words that follow in his qr link would indicate otherwise. The topic was not, would this be a guy with a perspective that could be converted to libertarianism or what is the best way to approach explaining libertarianism to a person with a collectivist mentality.

There are many far-left socialists that see the same things as we do (check out revleft.com), but I would never say they get it. While they may recognize the problem as we do, they differ greatly from us in understanding it, and more importantly the approaches to solving it. They see the failure of government and government intervention as a result of too much individual freedom (greed) and an unequal distribution of wealth that gives the wealthy economic power over the government which causes it to fail. I am sure you could sit on revleft for a long enough period of time and maybe convert a collectivist to an individualist, but most will hold firm and find your individualist ideology repulsive and they would probably say similarly, that you "don't get it".

  16. The Libertarian Collective......now all is out in the open, Libertarian=Loser Leftist with a dash of Mise and Hayek....finally my eyes are opened by HipsterHop. Jeez, I thought this site was about Economics but obviously has become home to Beevis and Butthead.
