Sarah Palin on the Second Amendment Ride of Paul Revere

The famous 1775 midnight ride of Paul Revere was done to warn revolutionaries of the  approaching Britisn army. Sarah Palin has a different version. She has Revere confronting the British over the right to bear arms:

He who warned the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure, and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed.
No warning shots were fired or bells rung. It was a secret ride.

  1. It may not have been intentional, but it looks like Palin was technically correct. The link below is to a letter from Paul Revere posted on the website of the Massachusetts Historical Society, in which he states that he came across a British officer and warned him "that There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up."

  2. @Josh Hanson

If you think what Palin said refers to what Revere said to British soldiers after he finished his ride, I have a fog making machine in San Francisco that I'd like to sell you.

  3. As my opening sentence implies, I doubt that Palin had any idea what she was talking about. I'm only making the point that the ride was not as secret as some would argue.

  4. For an interesting take on Paul Revere, who is portrayed as a pompous a**hole, and sets the record straight re that famous ride, read Bernard Cornwell's historical novel " The Fort". A great read. Cornwell knows his subjects and does his homework.
Maybe Sarah could read more than her briefing notes from the neocons...

  5. Palin just completed a tour of historical site. She's simply repeating what was said by the tour guide, so of course she knows what she's talking about, because its what the tour guide told her. Unless you think the tour guide is wrong

  6. The Brits were going after our guns! The objective of their march was to confiscate weapons from an arsenal. Its you who don't know the history.
Bells were rung and shots fired along Reveres path to raise the militia.
Read Fischer's book "Paul Revere's Ride".

  7. Is there anything that Libertarian Economistas can not do? I tend to be in agreement with Mise on economics but I find the juvenile responses from the modern Libertarian minds to remarkably resemble those of the feral lefty posters....seemingly indicating that many libertarians are actually LeftyTarians, IOWs leftist!

  8. I agree, Westie. And the long march in the desert shall continue for the not so brave libertarian brigade. Sniping from the sidelines seems to be the libertarian way. I am in complete agreement with Austrian economics as well as most of Libertarian foreign policy, but the speculation is definitely progg like. I think what anonymous said at 11:37 pm is the most likely scenario. She repeated what she was told. I realize that, too, is speculation but it's plausible and offers a real answer. Not the standard, duh she's stupid.

  9. I like Sarah's new and longer hair style; it helps her look more feminine and younger.
