HOT: Rick Perry Threatens Ben Bernanke

Well, well, it appears that Rick Perry has read Ron Paul's book, End the Fed, but just to prove he has a screw or two loose, he tells an Iowa group that if Bernanke prints any more money then Bernanke would be treated "pretty ugly" in Texas.

Here's the Think Progress take:

Texas Governor Rick Perry, who entered the presidential campaign on Saturday, appeared to suggest a violent response would be warranted should Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke “print more money” between now and the election. Speaking just now in Iowa, Perry said, “If this guy prints more money between now and the election, I dunno what y’all would do to him in Iowa but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas. Printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treasonous in my opinion.” Treason is a capital offense.
And they call Ron Paul extreme.

Update: It should also be noted that this guy will say anything to get a vote. While he plays outsider attacking Bernanke, don't forget he is the Bilderberg's candidate.

  1. What a tard! So he believes apparently that printing more money would improve the economy but would be unfair to his chances of winning becuase the fed would be playing politics? Isn't he smart enough to understand that Obama could make the same argument about Fed inaction? But even forgetting that, he's essentially making the argument that he would rather have the economy tank then have his chances of becoming President put at risk.

As for his appeal for violence, that is just good politics since Neocons (and Progressives for that matter) respond well to a leader willing to use the iron fist of government to get their way.

  2. Perhaps this is being done purposefully to hurt Ron Paul by making being anti-Fed appear synonymous with southern redneck violence.

  3. I don't think any of these guys have read Ron Paul's book. There is not a single candidate that connects the business cycle to the Fed. They get glimpses of what Ron Paul talks about the Fed, and see that it evokes popular support, so you will have a Gingrich calling out for a Fed audit, a Perry mentioning printing money, Bachmann's website touting "sound money", yet they cannot go further than that, they don't have a true understanding of exactly why the Fed needs to be reigned in and extinguished. They instead talk about how they can create jobs better than the others but they will never link the job market to the monetary system. They are all mere hucksters.

  4. Funny how all these career long fed supporters and statists are hopping on the anti-central bank bandwagon now that ron paul has made it a national issue after being laughed at for thirty years.

Bachmann was supposedly reading the 900 page Mises book Human Action on her beach vacation, Newt and Santorum are all of a sudden calling for auditing the fed, and W on Steroids is threatening bernake?

This is all being done to try and co-opt, control, and discredit the anti-fed movement, just as the GOP did with the tea party movement that ron paul started.

  5. Perry is a master con-artist. Whenever he opens his mouth, you can be sure it's because he's about to lie.

  6. I also don't think Perry has really read any of Paul's books, much less those of Mises, Hayek, Rothbard etc. This is rather an attempt to paint himself as a "fusion" between Paul and Bachmann (has he described himself in a radio interview on Monday) and I think he tries to "outright" Paul on this to try to give the impression he is even more outraged as Paul on this with his emotional appeal. Actually strategically for Paul I think it is actually a good thing, as it paints Paul as a moderate on this among most of the ignorant media and Perry is also digging himself a grave as he will be asked to elaborate on this and with what answers can he really come up with. It will also make him "unelectable" among the "mainstream", to which he should also appeal and will lead to serious questions. All the more so, imagine this will also come up in the next debate and one can almost feel sorry for Perry trying to outdo Paul on his own turf. The Paul campaign should play this very wisely and strategically. One could for instance come up with a rational solution, instead of the emotional one of Perry (which is no solution of course) and say the issue of audit the Fed is the solution.

If think this is equivalent/comparable to the 2007 race where Tom Tancredo said during a debate that the others - with regard to illegal immigration (his signature issue) are trying to to "outTancredo" Tancredo.

  7. Perry is a master con-artist indeed and it is clear he wants to run as a sort of fusion between Paul and Bachmann (per radio interview on Monday). I highly doubt he has ready any of Paul's books, nor any of the Austrian free market economists: he only understands crony capitalism. He is obviously trying to "outPaul" Paul on this (just like in 2007 Tom Tancredo with regard to his signature issue of illegal immigration mentioned the others tried to "outTancredo" Tancredo).
But the two things are quite different also, and complicated. Perry is digging his own grave on Paul's turf. He is making an emotional statement and will only make a fool of himself: how is he going to appeal to "moderates" and "mainstreamers" with such emotional language and the politico's may eventually define him as unelectable, while Paul can rationally explain the whole issue very intelligently and persuasively and convincingly. The Paul campaign should be very strategic and smart: while Perry play on the emotions of the voters (offering no real solution to it), Paul can show he is with his audit the Fed bit working on solving the issue rationally. Remember also, the issue polls very well, just as with the wars and these two alone are already winning issues for Paul in the general election. Perry is obviously a smart campaigner, but he is unable to rationally explain and apart from his record and scrutiny, one wonders how he will fare in the debates...

  8. Perry is a faux Conservative candidate, wrapping himself in the flag, bible and tea party, while practicing something else.

But at least he's correct about the enormity of the crime of destroying our currency and stealing our money.

  10. Go Perry! Yes you will get these effeminate responses from ignorant people, but although you will be considered (ultimately) foolish with regard to your political chances, you are, just the same telling the truth about the financial criminals in our system!
