Police in riot gear have moved in and begun clearing anti-Wall Street protesters from the plaza in front of Oakland's City Hall where they have been camped out for about two weeks, reports AP.
Television news footage shows numerous people in plastic cuffs being led away from the site by police around 5 a.m. Tuesday.
City officials warned the protesters last week that they were breaking the law and could not stay in the encampment overnight.
My favorite quote from the Morning Edition report on this subject on NPR this morning: "Flash bang and tear gas grenades where used, but it was unclear which side they came from." Yeah, right.
