It's well known that Ron Paul appeals to libertarians nationwide and even for his House campaigns he received significant contributions from outside his district. Tom Woods could expect the same support, perhaps even more so. I once heard him say he moved to the Topeka,Kansas, area "for various reasons". He may not know it yet, but one of those reasons is so he can run for the U.S. Senate. He'd look great in Pat Robert's seat.
Tom is one of the few people who would stand up for principles and his own integrity if he were to get into politics. There certainly aren't many people that you could say this about, Tom is one of those few. And, he is probably one of the best public speakers you will ever see, just phenomenal.
Though, I do have to say that being in public office would probably be akin to torture for Tom.
I have been thinking about the same thing for quite a while. Yes, Tom Woods should run for office. He will be a great " statement" a la Ron Paul and the flame of Liberty will be kept alive with a man like him.
The way things are going,Barry's running usa remotely by executive drone orders... and just ask the Saudis, the average urban kenyan has to pay 16 bribes a month to get his regular affairs arranged. We are not too far from that state of affairs. We got no cash.Does he really wanna do..that?Hop into the cesspool of vipers?
Larry, I agree, Tom is already doing valuable work now. But he says it in this video 'I have not done one-one billionth what Ron Paul has done for liberty' (not precise quote?).
So there does come a point where he might accomplish more, for a time at least, in a major public office. Can anyone deny that his voice as a Senator or Presidential candidate would not be spectacular for our cause? I would do anything to make sure I gave him the maximum contribution, that's how motivated I would be.
It's not clear to me what you mean by "our cause".
If you mean full freedom and liberty uninhibited by the state, then you are deluding yourself into believing it can be accomplished by voting and elections, even with people as impressive and intelligent as the "Tom Woods'" of the world as the choices. Thus, my posting of the Molyneux piece for its logic.
I would also recommend reading Spooner's "No Treason" if you're not familiar with it yet.
If, however, you mean something else by the phrase "our cause", here too, you have erred and are deluding yourself, as I want no part in any of that, whatever "that" may be.
Dr. Woods has rejected running for office a few times already, I don't think he's the type of person that would enjoy doing such a thing, although he's an amazing speaker and would certainly be electable.
@Larry, the cause I refer to is libertarianism. I respect the views of those who say voting and holding public office is not productive towards that end, but it's really hard to write off what Ron Paul has done, isn't it?
I don't know if we'll ever get rid of the state, in the meantime, I want to do something to make it as small as possible. Voting and elections *won't get us there*, but with the right people (Paul, Woods, etc) it may help us get a lot closer.
After this election cycle and if Paul hasn't won the Presidency, it will be time that freedom loving patriots admit to themselves that the system is corrupted beyond repair. There's only one way to restore it... the "1-7-7-6 Plan."
Tom Woods should be running mate with Ron Paul. If Paul gets sick (he is no spring chicken) then we got Woods on deck...and he does not require a teleprompter.
I totally agree that Tom Woods should be Ron Paul's running mate if RP gets the nod. The thing is, Tom Woods is involved in the campaign and I have zero doubt that Ron Paul has heard this from Tom Woods himself...which makes me wonder if Ron Paul is really in this to win it or not. I hope that Tom Woods will run for Congress in 2014.
I, for one, hope he never runs for a political office. He's productive in the private sphere.
ReplyDeleteI'd vote for Tom Woods. My family would vote for Tom Woods.

ReplyDeleteExactly, Robert. I can't think of any voice I would want on that debate stage more than Dr. Woods.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I like Tom Woods' work and thoughts, I believe many of the above posts are fatally flawed:

How about a job as press secretary for president Paul?

Could you imagine Tom Woods debating Obama or Biden on ANYTHING? It would be the beatdown of the century.
