The People They Hire to Teach Your Kids

A veteran Manhattan teacher was caught allegedly forging an error-riddled jury duty letter that she used to miss 15 random days over nine months.

Mona Lisa Tello, who was recruited from Puerto Rico by the city to teach as a bilingual science teacher in 1998, misspelled “trial” as “trail,” “cited” as “sited,” and “manager” as “manger” in her note from the Superior Court of New Jersey, NyPo reports.

The High School of Graphic Communication Arts teacher also got the easily Googable address, telephone and fax numbers of the court wrong in a letter she submitted to excuse her absences, said NyPo.

The letter oddly claimed that her jury duty ran on various days from Sept. 16, 2010 through May 31, 2011 rather than for a short, consecutive period.

She was busted in June when her principal called the court and learned that the real letter had been a deferral of jury duty.

Tello was arrested at the Manhattan District Attorney’s office and charged with forgery in the second degree, criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.

  1. Bad day for the NYC Public whatever they are.

This moron faked her own kids death for an extra week off.
Not a teacher, but an all important parent coordinator (at 37K per year).

  2. Look on the bright side: she wasn't around to "teach" very often.

  3. Media losers purposefully avoiding Paul second place win, and talking about 3rd place winner Huntsman as if anyone cares. Total media blackout of Paul on CSPAN.

Nothing on CNN except the talk of Huntsman 3rd place nothingness. Total media blackout of Paul. Such a disgrace our Media has become as a primetime source for information, truthful information. We know they suck but too see it in Primetime makes it even more sickening and disgusting to watch.

    Huntsman as if he matters.

  4. There is another story of a teacher in New York that faked her daughters death to get an extra week of vacation in Costa Rica.

  5. Bigger question is why we are recruiting freaking teachers from Puerto Rico to teach Spanish. Don't we have any Americans who speak Spanish to teach the children of illegal immigrants in NYC?

  6. @Chris: Puerto Ricans are American citizens, and have been since 1917.

  7. Which is another joke, but that's another topic for another time.

  8. i am not surprise that she used court letters ,i am surprise that she did all those spellings mistakes, knowing mona lisa as i do, she has sued everybody that has had one dollar left in there wallet so that she probaly has so many court letter in her possession to copy what goes around comes back around yes
