Establishment Republicans Even Try to Bury Ron Paul in a Baseball Game!

Here's a clip from the 1983 Congressional baseball game. What's interesting to note is that Ron Paul is buried at number 7 in the batting order, even though the announcers admit he is the best power hitter the Republicans have!

Of course, the Democrats also cut in to Ron Paul's chance to completely shine. In one at bat, they hit him with a pitch, in another the catcher interferes with his swing.

This being Ron Paul, when he is not interfered with he is the star. He went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs in this game. Dr. Paul is in the Guinness Book of Records for being the only player in the annual Congressional Baseball Game to hit a home run over the fence in a Congressional game.

  1. This sort of thing may not be false, but is INSANELY easy to parody. I love the site, but if I were you, I'd save this tone for stuff like the Caucus cancellation.

Taken to their extreme, such things can get Kim-Jong-esque. Maybe they just didn't know what a good hitter he was? Ever think of that?

  2. Uh... he was already kind of famous for being an exceptional ball player. This was 1983. He'd been in more than a few of these games. Listen up, he's ALWAYS been a pariah amongst establishment Repubs.

  3. Matt:
I think ol' Bob is doing a bit of self-parody here, BTW.

  4. is that frank I hear spitting all over the mic?

  5. If you listen tot he comentators, they actually SAY he's undervalued on the hitting lineup.

    (And yes, it's Bawney Fwank.)

  6. I'm sure the lineup was set by political favor, nothing to do with real baseball.

That being said, I can't believe they didn't have him farther back...

  7. I am an uber-Ron Paul volunteer, have been on his staff in the past, but this piece is RIDICULOUS b/c 5 people were hit with pitches during this specific game. Yes, the catcher interfered with his swing. the beanballs and the catcher interference are most definitely b/c of lack of baseball skill, not skullduggery. Paul at #7 is just stupid. Let's keep to exposing the verifiable, in your face attacks on Paul, not this! Just show the video of him hitting one out of the park, the only congressman to ever do so in this repub vs. dem annual affair.

  8. A Wenzel parody or not, weak submission by Bob. Let's do better.

  9. When I was a kid the biggest way to get into trouble was to break a window with an errant baseball. I just never knew how much I was contributing to the economy but would later find out in public school.

    1. I see what you did there. Been reading Hazlitt, have we?

  10. I think it is funny, Bob. I'm not taking it seriously, unlike some here.

  11. I'm a RP fan, but this post is just embarrassing.

    Ever play beer-league baseball?

Everybody gets HBP and walked all over the place.

The lineup card never makes sense.

Pitching and defense are easily the worst parts of recreational baseball, hands down.

    Relax, it's just a game, drama-lama.
