HOT: Lieutenant Colonel Reports Pentagon Lying about Afghanistan

In the Armed Forces Journal, LT. COL. Daniel Davis writes:
I spent last year in Afghanistan, visiting and talking with U.S. troops and their Afghan partners. My duties with the Army’s Rapid Equipping Force took me into every significant area where our soldiers engage the enemy. Over the course of 12 months, I covered more than 9,000 miles and talked, traveled and patrolled with troops in Kandahar, Kunar, Ghazni, Khost, Paktika, Kunduz, Balkh, Nangarhar and other provinces.

What I saw bore no resemblance to rosy official statements by U.S. military leaders about conditions on the ground.

Entering this deployment, I was sincerely hoping to learn that the claims were true: that conditions in Afghanistan were improving, that the local government and military were progressing toward self-sufficiency. I did not need to witness dramatic improvements to be reassured, but merely hoped to see evidence of positive trends, to see companies or battalions produce even minimal but sustainable progress.

Instead, I witnessed the absence of success on virtually every level.

  1. Great piece. Of course, LTC Davis will retire as a LTC...

  2. He obviously didn't care about promotion or other worldly rewards, but truth instead. He has already received his true reward in heaven.

  3. Kinda like Viet Nam, huh? And using Nam as the example, let me guarantee you that any success we have will quickly be given back by our government....That's what we did in Viet Nam.

  4. Sounds like a repeat of Nam ! We are pulling out and leaving the country to it's own means. another politically correct war. Maybe we should send the politicians to the front and let them talk and lie their way out of any confrontation.

  5. This is just the very tip of the iceberg — a smidgeon of truth which leaks past the incompetent media. All the departments of our government have the same problem. It is impossible to believe anything that is reported anymore, from the unemployment rate to the economic disaster of the “Affordable” Care Act (what a disgusting misnomer that one is). I can think of nothing short of a major “natural” upheaval of the earth around the capital that could cure the plethora of unnecessary predicaments which have befallen our society during the relatively short period that this administration has been in office. It is incompetence to the nth power, beginning at the very top. Anyone who believes that four more years of this charade would help is a complete brain dead nincompoop!

    1. Not just the last adminstration. Any of the Republicans we have had after Reagan have been moderate at best. Have you noticed that everything is a "crisis" and must be dealt with immediatly? Why does it all get to crisis mode? Then they can pass more legislation that take's more of our right's away ( ie. the Patroit act )Have you noticed how Obama talk's about exporting capitialism and freedom to these other countries? Why doesn't he quit exporting it and leave some for us. If we would drill for our own oil we could tell these nations to deal with it themself's and stay home. Myself, I'm moving to Ecuador and a life free of litigation, goverment interference and Obama. God bless what is left of America.

    3. This is why you must vote for Ron Paul two times this year. Don't be asleep on the couch like Floridians.

  6. It is not only the military, but the war tools industrial complex, the senators, representatives, the entire executive branch and the judicial branch (all the foregoing of the federal level). There is so much money to be made that with very rare exceptions all the players in this deadly game become filthy rich at the expense of "We the People" and the inhabitants of whichever country we plant our boots.

PS: I played in the game of Viet Nam 66-67 and experience first hand the futility of it all.

  7. When you become a US Army General you lower yourself from that of a Army Officer to that of a compromised political appointee, and end up dangling on a string with temporary promotions. Also your wife is expected to work full time without pay as the "first lady" of the command. The preception of leadership is manifested by orchestrating dramatic events to create public support for more loan demand to satisfy the Jewish bankers that control the USA.

Ike was interviewed in the Rainer Club in Seattle by Mrs Roosevelt when he was a Lt Colonel at Fort Lewis. Also Ike was CFR.
