Over at the neocon flagship publication,
The Weekly Standard, P.J. O'Rorurke
takes the Crane side in the power opera and tells us:
....we neocons and paleocons and rank-and-file Republicans should understand how important Cato is.
But, of the Kochs he writes:
The Kochs are good citizens with honest wealth who’ve put their money where their minds are. They’ve donated large amounts to Americans for Prosperity and various PACs on the side of my better angels. They’ve funded the Mercatus Center and the Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University. And they’ve given more than $600 million to medical research, education, and the arts.
All this does not, however, in the case of the Cato Institute, keep them from being fools.
Actually, except for supporting beltarians, the Cato Institute does little. In the long run, because of its beltway reachout program,
it will have little impact on the advance of liberty. For the neocons, however, Cato is simply another tool they can use to advance their agenda. They know the Catoites will play ball.Since Murray Rothbard left, they always have.
I find it amusing and a little weird that O'Rourke lumps neocons and paleocons in together.
