How Totalitarian is the United States?

This week on the Robert Wenzel Show, Thomas DiLorenzo discusses whether Nazi Germany (was) or the current United States is more totalitarian, and what might start causing states to secede from the U. S. Is the U.S. headed for a Soviet Union style break up? DiLorenzo answers the questions, below.

  1. I high recommend the onlince course. I enrolled in the first offering discussed in the interview, came away with a higher understanding why we are in a mess and getting worst. The knowledge and wisdom that came with taking the course has help me in discussions with my fellow Americans who are concerned and willing to listen to about something other what they already know or think.

    1. I too was enrolled in that first course.
Warning: DiLorenzo's a tough grader. Made me study all the harder (and learn). I got with the program and pulled a 3.6 .
      Great course!

  2. Hi Bob, I own some gold mining shares as an inflation-hedge (mostly Canadian companies because it seems like they probably have less nationalization risk). Since stocks are considered "paper wealth" (as opposed to "real assets" like gold and silver), I'm concerned about what will happen to my paper wealth if the U.S. experiences a Soviet Union style break up (e.g. maybe my ownership won't be "recognized" in the new "regime").

From your studies, have you seen any commonality amongst countries that fall apart economically? Does paper wealth tend to "carry forward" or does it just vary widely from country to country? And possibly, does it depend on where that paper wealth is held (e.g. on a foreign exchange as opposed to in companies based in the country that collapses)?

Also, are there any books or articles that you can point me to regarding this type of thing? I know that I can google it but I'd rather read people that you trust.

  3. I can't buy this "small is beautiful" schtick, and secession is a pipe dream. Having been raised in a small town, I can assure you that parochialism has some very serious drawbacks. Washington, D.C may inundate us with hyper-exaggerated threats about Muslim terrorists, but in smaller communities the "threats" can be as inconsequential as "gays" or "hippies." The diversity movement doesn't get its impetus from smaller and more dispersed communities in this country. Live and let live isn't the motto among such groups and conformity is decidedly a virtue.

    1. But you DO have the ability to move. Heck, the Mormons built themselves a whole STATE when NY became hostile!!

    2. Secession is a pipe dream? Like in 1776?

    3. Good luck trying to change something as huge as the imperial city then. It's a lot easier to change something small over something incredibly huge and distant.

I prefer the so-called gay and hippie threat to an empire that "requires" tons of "SWAT teams" (read: military soldiers with the word police slapped on the back) to "protect" us.
