Rand Paul on Mitt Romney's View of the Fed Versus the Truth

Rand Paul's endorsement of Mitt Romney and his claim that Romney and Ron Paul are on the same page, with regard to the Fed, is not sitting well with the internet folk. This video is already going viral.

  1. Sad to watch a man that I respected parsing words like a true politician.

Maybe that's what you have to do to become President now-a-days... let's hope that he doesn't lose his soul along the way....

  2. Thank you for highlighting this video Robert. Nice to see this video get out to more and more individuals. It is clear that Romney and Ron Paul do not share the same position on the FED. This whole Rand Paul episode is extremely disappointing and I hope that Ron Paul can stick to his principles and refrain from endorsing Romney.

  3. The video ends with a plea to Ron Paul to not endorse Romney. Have no fear, he will not.

Unlike his son, Ron has chosen legacy as opposed to immediate gratification. To paraphrase Dr. North, Ron Paul has chosen calling, Rand has chosen career.

Ron won't throw away 40 years of his public life now, after he has won.

    1. People, its time to stop with wishful thinking. This is a coordinated action by Rand and Ron Paul. On the same day when Rand endorsed the plastic man, Ron called his supporters to be respectful at Tampa convention. A few weeks ago, Ron Paul campaign said they were suspending the campaign, but asked for more money nevertheless.

Let's face the unpleasant truth: both Ron and Rand already sold out. Watch this video very carefully, please:

    2. This is a 36 minute video, can you please summarize the point as thus far you've only repeated what we already know and no one contests.

Calling people to be "respectful" is not bad, Lew Rockwell did as much along with asking them not to even bother going.

    3. I really doubt Ron will endorse Romney. I also am not watching a 36 minute to see someone's views on that when it runs contrary to everything Ron Paul has said and done.

    4. You don't see any logical connection between Ron Paul's suspending of his campaign and Rand's endorsement of Romney? And Ron's silence about the endorsement? C'mmon, wake up.

As for the video, the person interviewed is a former top staffer of Ron Paul, who quit in 2007 when she was told by a leading strategist of the campaign that Ron Paul is not gonna win, because they (establishment) is not gonna allow him to win, but they were nevertheless to pretend they are running to win, in order to spread the message (she was asked to participate as one of the four major strategists in that campaign). And that Rand Paul is co-opted by the DC establishment, that Jessy Benton is a puppet of the same guy who "domesticated" Rand Paul, and much more. Watch the video when you have chance; don't take my word or my interpretation for granted.

    5. "You don't see any logical connection between Ron Paul's suspending of his campaign and Rand's endorsement of Romney?"

No, we all see a logical connection. It was inevitable that Rand was going to endorse Romney. Rand has been playing the political game since the start and this move on his part has been no different. However, it would have been insane for Rand to endorse Romney while his dad was still running. So he waited for his dad to admit he wouldn't be the nominee until he endorsed Romney. This is common sense, not some sort of conspiracy.

"As for the video, the person interviewed is a former top staffer of Ron Paul, who quit in 2007 when she was told by a leading strategist of the campaign that Ron Paul is not gonna win, because they (establishment) is not gonna allow him to win, but they were nevertheless to pretend they are running to win, in order to spread the message (she was asked to participate as one of the four major strategists in that campaign)."

Irrelevant. (I don't know if you were trying to make a point with this part, so don't interpret my pointing out of this statement's irrelevance as hostility)

"And that Rand Paul is co-opted by the DC establishment, that Jessy Benton is a puppet of the same guy who "domesticated" Rand Paul, and much more."

Again irrelevant. Rand would have made his endorsement of Romney after Paul's dropping out even if there was no conspiracy.

  4. Contrarian view here:
Rand may be smarter than is currently thought..
His tactic: Tell the world that Mitt supports transparency and auditing of the Fed, as do you and your Dad and all of his supporters.... and THEN watch Mitt squirm, 'cause he will not be able to come right out and deny it..... with all those Paulites he's trying to garner at the convention !
All the clips of Mitt were taken PREVIOUSLY to this... and Rand knows it.

    1. Both Rand and Mitt know that the Fed has become a target, even in conventional conservative circles (those who dont understand anything about the issue). Mitt will be happy to be a rhetorical enemy of the institution he'd like to name the Chairman of...

    2. Rand says he will go on the campaign trail for Mitt and what? talk about how Romney wants to Audit the Fed? Rand was also on CNN over the weekend talking about how Romney will support Auditing the Fed. I wonder how all this audit the Fed support from Romney will affect his fundraising? I wonder if any of his bankster friends are calling him up right now to understand what exactly did Romney promise to the junior Senator from Kentucky and how much "campaigning" is Rand going to do for Romney and if Rand is going to be talking about Auditing the Fed in the campaign leading to the general election? Will Rand challenge Obama on an Audit the Fed bill during the General? If so, Obama will need to prepare an answer on that issue. Romney and his donors may be regretting Rand's decision to endorse Romney very soon.

    3. Mitt will have no problem letting Ron Paul's supporters think he is anti-Fed. He'll never do anything to take power from them if elected so why would he care if people fall for a lie? If that is Rand's strategy he is even dumber than I thought.

  5. I liked The Daily Bell's take on the Ron and Rand thing, perhaps you will too?:

  6. Rand can say "My Dad" over and over again...but it's not going to take him far with Ron Paul supporters because they are already people that are able to think for themselves. He's not talking to a normal segment of society in this regard.

This strategy of trying to tie him, Ron, & Mitt together is so filled with cognitive dissonance for Ron Paul supporters & Mises/Rothbardians that he'll never pull it off.

Unfortunately, Rand is showing that he is really despicable and a tool of the GOP(in both meanings). I cry for his father.

  7. LOL at Romney claiming he doesn't want the Fed part of Washington's drunken spending spree! Who is he kidding?

  8. Anybody else think the country is finished? Sorry, I'm leaning that way. I have an educated guess that Robert Higgs would agree with me. That doesn't mean I believe in giving up on libertarianism, but I think it's hopeless at the national level.

    1. I agree, but then again "finished" is interesting because it took the Roman empire quite some time to actually be "finished" so to speak despite the obvious decay in their productivity.

America is somewhat unique in that it's comprised of many people who have descendants just a few generations back that came from someplace else to have a better life here...the question is how many are willing to pick up an do it again and how connected they feel to that sentiment.

Of course, if you're "plugged in" to the system you don't feel the need to do so regardless....

But every day the US becomes less competitive in terms of quality of life compared to the rest of the world.

The thing I often wonder about is if the US is able to pull off a 225% debt to GDP ratio and hold it together like Japan has for 20 years....that would suck if they could.

I'd also like to see Bob Wenzel do a write up on how the Fed would specifically attempt to shrink its balance sheet. I've read a couple of different synopsis on it and still don't fully understand it. Something tells me if there's a way to play the other side of Bernanke's attempt to do so that you could make a ton of money.

I don't know how risky shorting the dollar is as opposed to simply holding gold/silver.....(I'm doing the latter).

I'm just worried that even playing the other side could be "bad" in that a systemic collapse could suggest any dollar holdings become worthless before you could capitalize on big swings by turning into precious metals.

  9. Micro-analyzing the Romney endorsement is frankly ridiculous. Given all the dirty tricks and what-not during the campaign, I understand the frustration, but the endorsement isn't really that big a deal. If people disagree with Rand, they can simply ignore his endorsement of Romney.

I think people expect Rand Paul to be exactly like his father. Rand has a different style than his father. I have the highest respect for RP, but he didn't get a lot of his legislation passed. Quite a few--maybe too many--435-1 votes. Rand's MO is trying to persuade internally other Republicans who might not already be libertarians to come on board. And I really do think as time goes on and Rand gets more established (he only entered the Senate in 2010!), I think you will definitely see more of the anti-establishment politics that his father is famous for.
