Bread Shelves Go Empty in Manhattan

This is what occurs when prices are out of sync with demand. Generally it is caused by price controls. In this case the bread shelves are bare at the Food Emporium on 68th and Broadway in Manhattan as the demand for bread climbed because of Hurricane Sandy.

  1. interesting...if the merchant were to jack the bread prices up prior to the storm he or she would be chastised for 'gouging' the consumers. Fortunately, we make our own bread at home. It's really quite simple actually.

    1. As long as you have a bread machine it's a piece of cake.

    2. Or time to cook at home, which is more plentiful during hurricanes.
