Guess What David Boaz Forgot to Mention

John Allison, President of the Cato Institute, is speaking at Cato this evening. David Boaz, Executive Vice President, Cato, introduced Allison.

Justin Raimondo emails:
Boaz's introduction of Allison mentions every organization he's ever been on the board of -- except for the Ayn Rand Institute.
More from Justin:

Allison says the big enemies of free enterprise: altruism and pragmatism. he's a
randroid for sure...
Omigod Allison is a raging Objectivoid. He's giving a dumbed down
version of the Objectivoid ethics. One thing stands out: "Most people
are self-destructive." He actually said that.
FYI:

In late 2008, when Allison was Chariman of BB&T, the bank accepted $3.1 billion in bailout money through the sale of its preferred shares to the U.S. Treasury's Troubled Asset Relief Program.

More from Justin:
"self esteen" "focus" "out of focus" every Randroid buzzword. Poor Boaz!!!!!

  2. So don't dare use any words Ayn Rand used or you will be branded (Brandoned?) and dismissed. See how easy it is to be a libertarian intellectual? Just hate Ayn Rand and ridicule those who admire her work. But don't try to refute her. That's a bit tricky. Stick to smearing and name-calling, Justin. Being snide is so much easier than being right.

    1. Attacking Ayn Rand and attacking the Objectivoid cult are two different things. I admire Ayn Rand as a novelist, but the cult she founded has taken her ideas and used them to justify "total war," the killing of civilians in wartime (not as an unfortunate byproduct but as moreally mandatory) and an immediate war with Iran. Allison's use of all the Objectivoid buzzwords indicates his fealty to this crazy little sect -- and will lead to the marginalization of Cato.

    2. To refute Ayn Rand is just too easy, that's why libertarians don't bother. Don't believe me? Here goes. Values are subjective, not objective.

  3. Guess what Wenzel forgot to mention...

BB&T was forced to take the bailout money over the objections of Allison.

I guess the facts shouldn't get in the way of a good smear, huh?

Like Allison or not, this is a pretty low class post. An actual discussion of the above points would been welcome, instead we get condescension and ridicule.

"The article discusses findings of a study on the participation of North Carolina banks in the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) of the U.S. federal government. The federal government recruited community bank 1st Financial Services Corp. of Hendersonville to participate in TARP. Some banks such as First Citizens and North State refused to participate for fear of political interference in their bank operations. Winston-Salem-based BB&T participated in TARP because chief executive officer (CEO) John Allison thinks it can help expand their market share."

    2. Nice post Anon., even if BB&T didnt need the bailout it shows that Allison has no problem being a crony capitalist.

  5. Rand has been refuted in an honest way by libertarian academics sufficiently. I appreciate the original post for doing what we all know to be taking place at the CATO institute. Anecdotes have their place on a blog, just the same as arguments.
