We all saw Katrina and what a disaster the state's response was. After that, you were a fool if you didn't make your own disaster preps. I feel for these people, but there's no one to blame but themselves. Those who trust the state to care for them will be sorely disappointed and may even pay for it with their lives.
The government can and will fix everything. When it gets around to it. In the future I hope these people remember how inefficient these governmental agencies are and take some preventative measures of their own. In a disaster no one will help you more than you help yourself.
If you're a "liberal", I suppose you watch this and see how the free market has failed, how the average person is left in squalid poverty and it's all everyone else's fault. Meanwhile, if you're a "conservative", you watch this and see what the world has become: full of entitled, ignorant, useless people.
I would hope, just hope, that if you're a libertarian, you watch this and you realize you don't have enough information to pass a judgment about this person or any other (is she just unlucky, and doing her best, or is she another conspicuous consumer who failed to make her own preparations for a "rainy day" when she very well could of and now indignantly demands the help of total strangers?) and if you really care you'll make some effort to get more information (which will come at personal expense... ridding yourself of ignorance always does) and then take the appropriate action according to your own judgment of the result.
One thing is clear, however-- there are cops in the background, so we can't blame this on anarchy!!

Perhaps, my friend, it is a combinations of poor luck and poor preparedness. Is that possible?
I note that the second lady talked about her church helping people. Folks laughed at Ron Paul when he said that in the past, people relied upon their families and their church to help in times of need, not the gummint. I'll bet everyone in that line voted for Obama. (not that Mittsy is any better).
This just goes to show how much of a failure centralized government is. New York City is too big to be governed by one blowhard in Manhattan. Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Queens should all secede from NYC. They pay exorbitant NYC taxes and all the money goes to Bloomberg's developer friends to build fancy buildings and stadiums in the rich, politically connected neighborhoods, and to policemen to patrol these areas.
I see someone who has an entitled mentality - which she should - because people in NYC have paid exorbitant taxes forever to provide safety and essential services. At least that is what the .gov agents always say they are needed for.
All that said counting on the .gov to provide anything ever is a foolish ideal. Moreover counting on the .gov to uphold their end of a contract (I paid taxes now you prevent flooding by building infrastructure) is beyond foolish. Until there is some sort of mandatory death penalty for government employees when a failure in the public services / infrastructure occurs, there will never be a strong enough negative force to keep .gov actors honest in performing the duties they have Been "contracted" to do.
