Beyond Kindle: No Need to Read Books Anymore

Jeff Tucker will read them so you don't have to.

From the latest Laissez Faire Books email (my highlights):

Changes to Your Club Membership, Plus a Bonus

Dear Laissez Faire Club Member,

In the past year since the Laissez Faire Club launched, we have read your letters, emails, and forum posts about membership privileges. Some of what you’ve sent me has been positive. And other times, you’ve made suggestions for improvement.

If you sent in a note of your own, I thank you. It’s your comments that make the Club better for our entire Laissez Faire community.

So today, we’re making a big new improvement based on your feedback. It’s a change that I hope will allow you to gain the most from your Club experience.

As you may know, one of the most frequent comments we get is that there is so much content it’s hard for members to keep up. Maybe you’ve felt this way, too.

If so, we have devised a way for you to get more from your membership while freeing up more of your time to do other things.

We're calling this first change the 12-Minute Executive Summary. These summaries are designed to save you time, while still providing the critical ideas each book we publish entails.

Jeffrey will summarize each book we publish and the specific takeaways you need to know to get the most out of it. When you are done reading these Executive Summaries, you should know exactly what the book contains in about 12 minutes.

In order to allow Jeffrey the time it will take to extract every critical takeaway from the book, we will need to alter the book publishing schedule. So after this week’s release [...] the e-book publishing schedule will change from one per week to one every other week.

  1. That's very selfless of Tucker to volunteer to be a gatekeeper/information czar for the busy literate masses.

    So what's your point?

  2. Nice, Laissez Faire CliffsNotes. Or is that Lazy Fair?

  3. Bob, tell me why this absolutely pointless, snarky comment should not be taken as evidence of a vendetta against Tucker, who has done more for liberty, Rothbard than just about anyone except Lew Rockwell himself.

  4. I've seen this kind of service offered before I believe on SkyMall so that executives could get the gist of all those pointless and trendy management and business books they are expected to have read.

  5. IT seems clear to me that the point of this change is to make it easier for LFC members to decide which books to read. There is no "gate keeper", just an information service.

  6. lol-Wenzel is relentless, I hope I never make his shit list.

  7. I don't see anything wrong with this idea. In fact, it's something that could spread ideas to people who wouldn't bother with a larger tome, so it has plenty of merit.
I know I couldn't possibly read every book in existence. And there are certain authors whose work I may not necessarily want to commit so much time to. So these synopses could have value to me. And I know the full volumes would still be available if I want to dig deeper.

  8. So can someone tell me if a membership is worth the cost? I didn't want to toss money into something and not find anything that I wanted.

  9. This attack makes absolutely no sense. I don't even know why you have a beef in the first place. The guy has a book club that promotes liberty. You got all bent out of shape because he didn't have Rothbard featured on his front page. Who gives a shit! Now he wants to provide a service to people subscribed to his book club and now he is a propagandist to the masses. What a pointless and idiotic crusade your leading against this guy. Your attacking someone who is on our side an austro-libertarian, he worked for the Mises institute how much more libertarian can you get. Rand Paul, beltarians,I understand your criticism there, but your way off point with this nonsense. Do you have some kind of personal grudge against the guy? I would love to know.

  10. Honestly, I think it is a good idea. If I like the summary, I'll buy the book.

  11. Bob- don't you do this with articles?

  12. Wenzel, are you from New Jersey?

  13. I would love to hear Mr. Tucker's analysis of their books. Tucker is very lively and engaging; I will definitely consider signing up now.

  15. From this week LFB club membership book (Hoppe, Theory of Socialism and Capitalism): in 1987...Hoppe said, “In order to have thoughts, you must have property rights over your body. That doesn’t imply that you own your thoughts. The thoughts can be used by anybody who is capable of understanding them.” (forward by A.D. Kinsella)

  17. Hasn't Bob Wenzel seen advertisements before? Maybe Wenzel wants advertisements to be banned.

Here is just one example of a false claims from the topmost post on EPJ at this time.

"Below you'll find snapshots of how major markets around the world ended the week." - this comes from the series "As the World Turns"

Really, Wenzel, you have a snapshot of the *ENTIRE WORLD MARKETS* in just one post? Are you on meds?

  18. Well I'll give it to Wenzel. He sure can find some way to attack someone no matter what they do.

I suppose if Rothbard himself read books and provided memos on them to people, you'd have the same criticism? Rothbard would be facilitating "no need to read books anymore", eh?

What a bunch of crap. This is growing pathetic, Bob.

    1. And who are you Jack V? Why is it that every time Wenzel puts up a quote critical of Jeff Tucker, I see negative comments from names I have never seen at EPJ before?

Wenzel is not afraid to use his name to state his views regarding Tucker, why is Tucker afraid to come out of the closet with his views, though it seems he has a lot to say under pseudonyms. What is Tucker afraid of?

    2. a) I can assure you I'm not Jeff Tucker

      b) So the hell what if I was?

      c) WTH does it matter who I am at all?

      d) You might want to look up the term "ad hominem".

  19. This seems to be an imitation of Rolf Dobelli's "GetAbstract", which gives out a prestigious award. Recent award winners include Peter Schiff, Robert Shiller, Nassim Taleb, and Bill Bonner & Lila Rajiva.

Perhaps LFB (an Agora subsidiary run by A. Wiggin, an employee of Bill Bonner's) would like to gain some of that academic prestige Agora otherwise scorns.
