Serious Humor in the Face of Very Serious Adversity

David Gordon tells me a fascinating story about philosopher Robert Nozick, author of Anarchy,State and Utopia. Nozick died of cancer. During the latter stages of the disease he had to have parts of his body removed including his stomach. Gordon, who knew Nozick very well, reports that after the operation, Nozick said to the operating physician, "I hope you got everything. I don't think I have the stomach to go through that again."
