Google Begins to Send Out Email Ads to Gmail Accounts

I just received an email ad sent via Google to my gmail account.

The explainer attached to the email ad says:
This ad is based on emails from your mailbox. Ads Settings puts you in control of the ads you see.
Put me down as surprised. This is aggressive new advertising.

Funny, though, I went to the Ads Settings page and they list the below as my interests. They also explain the list: "We use interests from your activity on Google products to tailor ads to you." Some interests they have exact. In other cases, they are way off base, e.g. apparently Google thinks I am a Brazilian music loving cross-dresser.

Air Travel
Banking
Books & Literature

Brazilian Music  (I have no idea how this is on the list. I listen to very little music and I'm not even sure what Brazilian music sounds like-RW)

  1. Anyone remember GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out)?

Nothing has changed except the amount of garbage...

  2. I swear I saw Robert Wenzel in a dress, stockings, and high heels. Looked just like an ensemble I saw in an ad that I received from Google!

    1. Shhhhh. Robert's very sensitive about that - he just wants to feel pretty...
