John Gotti on Taking Steroids

NyPo sets the scene:
[Former Mafia kingpin John Gotti]was seen and heard on a surveillance video recorded in 1998 - the same year that Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa both broke Roger Maris' single-season home run record - during his time in the federal penitentiary in Marion, Illinois telling his grandson that if he wanted to be an athlete, he had to take lots and lots of steroids.

"First of all, you got to be a good liar, a good lowlife, and an imbecile,” he said from behind plexiglass on a phone to his grandson. “You gotta take steroids. You must take steroids! And anybody that takes steroids is a garbage pail."[...]After hearing his grandfather's displeasure with him becoming an athlete, he said "Fine, then I'll be a crook," which didn't go over well with the mobster, who died in 2002.

  1. This is a brand new Patriot Protest Song, with emphasis on The Economic Collapse. I made a long version & a shorter version for “air play”. I made this You Tube Wednesday night July24, 2013:

We are from Florida where the Stand Your Ground law is under attack. This is going viral in Tallahassee and soon the entire State & Country.
This is original material all copyrighted and written by me. It is fresh off the grill. I’m giving you permission to use this song anyway you choose. My intent is to share & spread the truth. Below is the Cloud link that contains the audio of the short & long version:

  3. "First of all, you gotta be a good liar, a good lowlife, and an imbecile." The same could easily be applied to politicians. Say what you will about the mob - at least they're honest about what they do.

  4. There are a select few that understand old time Sicilians/Southerners outside of Sicilians/Southerners themselves, or specifically those still connected closely to the old ways and omerta.

This conversation with his grandson is light in that respect.

Things changed when the boomer generation came of age outside of Sicily/South(& more disrespect IMHO)...but Gotti straddled the cusp of that despite being more public than the usual...and he was still just 1 generation away from Southern Italy.

Sicilians/Southerners cherish their grand kids but at the same time will lay the down law in harsh terms compared to many other ethnicities if they step out of line.(although I've seen some Asians and Jews do the same) You can bet that Gotti's kid got an ear full for the grandson's behavior too beyond what we witnessed. The grandson is lucky his grandfather was behind plexiglass.

Sure, we all know it would be hard to lecture a kid while you are sitting in jail...but there's some cultural stuff here that may not be apparent to some.

Anyway, if Gotti didn't care about his grandson he wouldn't have laid out the truth like he did even though he threatened to kick his grandson's ass.(which is not so atypical in certain Italian cultures)
