Popcorn Time: NYC Comptroller Race

WSJ reports:
During their first debate Friday in the race for New York City comptroller, Scott Stringer cited Eliot Spitzer's prostitution scandal as evidence of his lack of integrity, while the former New York governor castigated the Manhattan borough president as a political hack with no significant accomplishments[...]Mr. Spitzer, a former state attorney general who resigned as governor in March 2008 after he was caught patronizing a high-price prostitution ring, said he didn't view his candidacy as a quest for personal redemption. He said he was running to be the city's chief financial officer on his record as "an independent voice" for the public.

"My personal failures have been before the public. I have answered questions—all the relevant questions about it—for weeks," said Mr. Spitzer, 54 years old. "Look at my total record, the totality of the record, who I am, what I have done, and I think on that record I can say to the public, 'I can serve as your comptroller.'"[...]

"Anyone [else] who did what Eliot did would be in prison right now," Mr. Stringer said.[...]

Mr. Stringer said he supported creating an inspector general for the Police Department, while Mr. Spitzer said "it's not going to solve the problem." Both support raising the minimum wage, with Mr. Stringer saying it should be above $10 per hour.

  1. Spitzer has out vote any day of the week. He didn't cheat on his wife. Are we now going to point fingers at Kennedy too?

Scott Stringer as Borough Presient is entirely not effective. Spitzer happens to be right. He should be the Mayor.

However, Stringer who control the police and fire and CPOP's officers let these hipsters go after their neighbors at Beatrice Inn, the Jane Hotel, the Maritime Hotel, La Esquina, Smith & Mills, the Mercer Hotel, the list is endless while this guy sat back and let them destory whole neighborhoods on some of our most relevant streets in the city. Why, because it turns out these are Stringers backers?

Was it Stringer's position Mr. Spitzers family made his money illegally? Instead this politicain set out to embarrass his wife?

Your a coward Stringer. Get out o government. You left the residients of Chelsea, Meatpacking. Lower East Side, Tribeca, Soho and the West Village in danger over what turns out in many cases were illegal businesses operating illegal who actually launder the moey with links to prostitution and narcotics litter out streets.

I'm with Spitzer. You should be ashaed of yourself Stringer. Why not set out to hurt someone's wife? What a loser!

  3. "Both support raising the minimum wage."

When I read that line, I feel so bad that these bastions for the poor are leading the brigade to INCREASE unemployment if they raise the minimum wage.
