Active Shooter in Washington D.C. at Navy Yard



A lone gunman has shot at least three people, possibly four at the Washington Navy Yard. Reports are that the gunman has barricaded himself in one of the Navy Yard buildings.

UPDATE 1

The Yard currently serves as an administrative center for the U.S. Navy, home to the Chief of Naval Operations, and is headquarters for the Naval Sea Systems Command.

UPDATE 2

NBC's Pete Williams says shooter "heavily armed," carrying at least one kind of long gun -- assault rifle or shotgun -- and a handgun.

UPDATE 3

D.C. police say at least 10 people injured .

UPDATE 4

Suspect is a black man. He is 6 feet tall, bald and dressed in all black.

UPDATE 5

Flights leaving Reagan National Airport have been halted.

UPDATE 6

At least 4 dead.

NBC is reporting that the shooter has been captured or taken down.

  1. Enough is enough with all of the shootings!

    It is high time we enact gun control - now. It is obvious that the military cannot be trusted with guns. Take their guns away!

    1. Let's not forget the police. They keep shooting people, either on purpose because they (the police) are dangerous sociopaths, or by accident because they're unfamiliar with proper gun safety. Disarm the police now!

      Yes. I only limited it to the military because of the context of the news story.

      I like to shock people by saying, "I am a big supporter of gun control. In fact I would bar more people form owning guns than Obama."

      Of course I mean: I would ban ANY state actor from owning any kind of weapon, whether owned privately or issued for their alleged duties. That would include active military as well. They could be issued weapons once war has actually been declared (of course not done since 12/8/41).
