TSA Super Drama: Bill Russell Arrested with Gun at Airport

Former Boston Celtic Bill Russell was arrested this week at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after TSA agents found a loaded gun in his luggage, reports the SF Chronicle.

Russell was arrested Wednesday night as he attempted to go through security. Airport spokesman Perry Cooper confirmed Friday night that Russell was cited for having a weapon in a prohibited area. The gun was confiscated and he was released.

Russell's gun was a .38-caliber pistol and was loaded with six rounds, according to a TSA spokesman. He was turned over to Port of Seattle police, and there were no disruptions at the airport.

He had a permit for the gun, but will still likely face fines from the Transportation Security Administration as well as possible prosecution from King County and state authorities, reports USA Today.

According to the spokesman Cooper, "He handled himself fine," which probably means that we can rule out his attempting to grope TSA agents.

Russell led the Celtics to 11 NBA championships.
