An Interview with Socialist Seattle City Council Winner Kshama Sawant

Socialist Kshama Sawant, who has just won a seat on the Seattle city council, was recently interviewed by Chris Hayes. Hayes unfortunately appears to understands less about free markets than Sawant and asks her no probing questions, nevertheless the interview provides a sense for the thinking of Sawant. Note well, she calls out problems in a number of sectors of the economy and blames them on capitalism, but all the sectors she mentions are government controlled or heavily government regulated sectors!

(Note: Robert Wenzel Show executive producer Chris Rossini is working furiously to try and get Sawant on RWS)

  2. I bet this Socialist is against the gold standard and against competing currencies.

It's always more govt rules regulation for the evil f*ckers in the Market, but only self-regulation for the angels who run the Govt.

  3. I did some digging. She is married to Vivek Sawant, a Principal Engineer at Microsoft who probably earns +$150K pre-bonuses (I work for MSFT as well, so I know). It looks like she worked as an engineer too, before becoming an "economics professor". She is now living separately from Vivek. Could it be that the desire to nationalize Microsoft is seated with a personal grudge with a husband who is flourishing and doing very well with the corporate giant? We know socialism's basic impetus is that of envy...

Politically and economically, Seattle and its commie residents are just making it more obvious to businesses that they should move to the pro-business "East Side", anyone who has visited Bellevue over the last couple of years cannot fail to notice how it's becoming an urban and business powerhouse the more Seattle goes commie. Seattle had hope in the development of South Lake Union and the Amazon campus at its hart, but with socialists like Idiot Sawant calling the shots, it looks like Bezos had placed a bet on the wrong side of Lake Washington.

    1. Very astute YL.

If she wants to convert the world to socialism, she should give back her clothing. She should give back her earrings. Her makeup should go to. All these things come from the greatness of capitalism. She will always fail to acknowledge the greatness of capitalism.

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to lose all the privileges you held sacred in life.

    2. Really? I suspect all those things you mention were made by workers. Not capitalists. Also the wealth that helped found those businesses was also generated by workers past. Capitalists create nothing. Their managers are workers and deserve to be paid. But the capitalists themselves are parasites that deserve nothing. The only thing great about capitalism is the misery and injustice it creates for all except a tiny few.

  4. Ugh!! That was like an awful replay of those college Marxists who droned on about inequality. Today the inequality must be worse. Ignore the fact that ghetto kids have two contracted cell phones, X-Box Generation IV or V, at least one computer in the house, a big screen TV, a fridge no older than 10 years, heating and air conditioning, a bike or two, and much, much more. Ignore the fact that kids can get a meal for around a buck, and in today's worthless dollar that is pretty damn good!! Grass-roots and the university priests of socialism nauseate me. They're angry. And instead of being productive and solving problems in the market place, their vociferous anger and third-world, Guevara look will get tapped for a political life by local politicians appealing to young kids. But when haven't young, penniless kids who have not a molecule of financial, economic, or marketing sense or an understanding of time on money not been attracted to the message of robbing from the rich? The one big irony that I have found is that these socialists are themselves rich or have millionaire friends while they advocate for socialism, or egalitarian poverty, for everyone else. Watching her makes it abundantly clear that we all need articulate voices for capitalism. Dear Ron Paul, would you consider running one more time if for no other selfish reason for me to hear your articulate interviews? Rock on, Chris Rossini!! Rock on, Bob Wenzel!! This interview of Socialist Kshama Sawant just sent your stock soaring!!

Capitalism- an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.

What part of "rather than by the state" do you not comprehend, anonymous? Do you think it may be a teensy bit relevant to have an understanding of the economic environment when assessing the course of your philosophy? Sawant proves she has no clue in this regard, and her insane proposals are the fruits of her misunderstanding.

  6. I thought Hayes did a decent job of trying to get some substance out of her. Compare her rambling non-answer to the question: What socialism means to her with Ron Paul's definition of libertarianism on the Charlie Rose show. http://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2013/09/ron-paul-on-charlie-rose-show.html

She reminded me of the great Thomas Sowell statement. The problem isn’t that Johnny can’t read. The problem isn’t even that Johnny can’t think. The problem is that Johnny doesn’t know what thinking is; he confuses it with feeling.”

  7. It appears that no here understands how capitalism functions, and even less about socialism. Educate yourselves. Viva la Revolution.

  8. If she likes socialism so much, she is free to go back to her home country India. India has a socialist govt. and she can run for office there. FYI, I was born in India too and came to america to escape the clutches of socialism. I am a libertarian and I hope Rand Paul becomes president in 2016!

    1. It's time we start canceling H1B Visas and find ways of deporting foreign agents like this lady. I am sure we have drained off all the talent from India that is willing to move here and now we need to reverse the trend until less than 5% of American qualify for the earned income tax credit.

I say this as an American of Indian descent. God bless America.
