Thanksgiving as the Birth of American Free Enterprise

Richard Ebeling emails:
Dear Bob,
I have a new opinion article on the news and commentary website of, "EpicTimes," on "Thanksgiving as the Birth of American Free Enterprise."

At this holiday time, it is worth recalling that the Pilgrims had originally planned the Plymouth colony to be a model of Plato's "Republic," in which their new society would operate on the basis of communal work and equal sharing of the outcome.
It ended in economic disaster, and the only thing that saved the colony from starvation, finally, was their instituting of private property and individual effort and reward.
Out of the resulting bounty, the Pilgrims gave thanks for their survival in the wilderness of the New World. Thus, we should remember that what Thanksgiving really represents is the triumph in America of private enterprise over the failure of collectivism.

  1. Too bad moronic statists have turned America into the very thing our ancestors were escaping. Idiots.
