Former DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano Is Living Very, Very Large in Oakland, California

Former Department of Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano, who left DHS to head the University of California system, is living large in Oakland, California, in a spectacular penthouse apartment that was once occupied by the biggest drug dealer in California and also once occupied by a co-founder of the Black Panthers.

The penthouse is located on Lake Merritt in an upscale section of Oakland, EconomicPolicyJournal.com has learned.

The apartment complex Janet Napolitano resides in at Lake Merritt in Oakland, CA
EPJ has been told by a person who has been in the apartment that it is the most spectacular apartment in the East Bay section of the greater Oakland/San Francisco Bay area. This person has seen many, many residences and says there is nothing else like it.

The penthouse has 360 degree views and includes a Zen garden. The EPJ source says that from the apartment there is a spectacular view of San Francisco, the Oakland Hills and the mountains in the far distance. You can literally walk 360 degrees around the apartment and see outside from every angle.

EPJ has learned that on Napolitano's move in day, Secret Service agents were at the building putting special wiring in the penthouse. The Oakland police and University of California police were also present.

Our source tells us that a number of Golden State Warriors live in the complex, but none of them have an apartment that comes anywhere close to what Napolitano has. Says our source, "You have to remember this is a large complex and she has the entire roof from one side to the other."

At the top of this building is one super-sized penthouse that takes up the entire roof, where Janet Napolitano lives.

The penthouse Napolitano now resides in has quite a notorious history. It was once occupied by Felix Mitchell, at one time California's super king pin drug dealer. He used this penthouse as his main residence in northern California and bought Carey Grant's house for his southern California residence.

According to Wikipedia:
Felix Wayne Mitchell Jr. (August 23, 1954 - August 26, 1986) was a convicted drug lord from Oakland, California and leader of the "69 Mob" criminal organization, which operated throughout California and into the midwest. Known as "Felix the Cat" after the cartoon character, he is credited with creating the country's first large-scale, gang-controlled drug operation.

For more than a decade, Mitchell battled competition from Mickey Moore’s crime family and the Funktown USA gang to gain total control of the heroin market. Before 1984-1985 and the widespread practice of free-basing cocaine, heroin use was more common. It is estimated that Mitchell brought in around $800,000 in weekly business.
Mitchell was targeted by local and federal law enforcement. He was convicted in 1985 and sentenced to life in prison at Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary where he was fatally stabbed on August 21, 1986.
The penthouse was also once occupied by Huey Newton, co-founder of the Black Panther Party. How could Newton afford the digs? Although not generally realized, political activism at the top levels is usually quite profitable and, oh yeah,  in 1982, Newton was accused of embezzling $600,000 of state aid meant for the Panther-founded Oakland Community School.

  1. Napalitano is dealing with chump change.
Check out the FIRST DHS head.
    Ridge Policy Group[edit]

In 2010, Ridge’s two former Chiefs of Staff Mark Campbell and Mark Holman opened a lobbying firm after Ridge lent the firm his name.[28] The full-service government affairs firm has offices in Harrisburg, PA, and Washington, D.C.

In July 2010, companies seeking to use hydraulic fracturing to extract natural gas from the Marcellus Shale formation engaged Ridge and Ridge Policy Group at $75,000 a month to help them gain support.[29]

    Home Depot[edit]

In February 2005, Tom Ridge was named to the board of Home Depot.[30] Ridge's compensation was expected to be about $100,000 per annum for this position.[31] Since April 2005, Ridge has also served on the board of Savi Technology,[32] the primary technology provider for the wireless cargo-monitoring network for the United States Department of Defense.[33]

    Exelon Corporation[edit]

In April, 2005, Ridge's appointment to the board of the Illinois/Pennsylvania/New Jersey electric utility was announced, with starting director compensation of $35,000 annual retainer plus a $1,500 meeting fee or per diem fee. Directors were also granted $60,000 in deferred stock units each year at that time.[34]

In 2010, it was reported that Ridge had appeared on MSNBC Hardball With Chris Matthews promoting nuclear energy as part of a "green agenda [to] ... create jobs, create exports," without any revelation by him or the cable channel of his Exelon position. In the report, his cumulative Exelon-derived compensation was put at $530,659; and it was said that, as of March 2009, he held an estimated $248,299 in Exelon stock, according to SEC filings. Exelon was described as "the nation's largest nuclear power company."[35]

    Deloitte LLP[edit]

In November 2006, Tom Ridge was announced as a Senior Advisor for Deloitte & Touche USA LLP.[36][37]

    The Hershey Company[edit]

In November 2007, Ridge was named to serve on The Hershey Company's Executive Board. The Hershey Trust, the primary shareholder of Hershey, asked for a change in board composition after several years of poor stock performance. The board named Ridge to the board for his knowledge of economics.[38]

    TechRadium Inc[edit]

Announced in January 2008, Tom Ridge will serve as a senior advisor to TechRadium, Inc., a Texas-based security technology company that provides its patented alert and notification system, IRIS (Immediate Response Information System), to a wide range of users including municipalities, public schools and universities, utilities, and military programs.[39]

    PURE Bioscience[edit]

In September 2009, PURE Bioscience, creator of a patented antimicrobial, announced Ridge would serve on its Advisory Board along with former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson.[40]

    1. Oh, well that makes it ok then. Thanks!

Is it any wonder our government at all levels are so corrupt when the people that vote actually attempt to defend the corruption of "their people" by pointing out they are somehow less corrupt, evil, bad? You should be outraged with this story and all of them. They are all wrong, whether they get a lot of money or a little is meaningless, other than perhaps an indication of how intelligent they are at gaming the system. Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil and big dollar corruption is as wrong and immoral as small dollar corruption.

  2. Proof that with the right political connections, you can live like royalty while being a completely useless parasite on society. Her tenure at DHS is reason enough to put her in a cage for the rest of her miserable existence.

    1. Her tenure in AZ still chaps me. We were glad to get rid of her. Only she went on to sour the entire nation instead of just one state.
