Progress Haters Attack Google Bus

NYT reports:
Activists blocked three buses carrying Bay Area tech workers to their Silicon Valley jobs on Friday, breaking a window of one of the vehicles. It was the second demonstration this month targeting the buses, which are rapidly becoming a symbol of the surging animosity between the tech world and everyone else in the Bay Area.

The protests were relatively small, involving a few dozen people each, according to local media reports. Two of the buses involved, including the one that was attacked, were in Oakland picking up Google employees. The San Francisco bus carried Apple employees.

“We’re here to send a message to the rich tech companies that their business has ramifications and consequences,” a San Francisco protester, Tony Robles, told the San Francisco Chronicle.

I wouldn't classify everyone in the Bay Area as a progress-hater, as NYT does above, but their are certainly plenty.

The protesters do not appear to be anti any Google colluding with government but just pure hate for Google and tech in general. Though they no doubt used at least a smartphone to take this picture and tweet it out.

The protesters seem to equate the expansion of Silicon Valley residents into the Bay area with high rents. Which means they fail to understand the role of Bernanke and rent controls in making it difficult to find cheap housing in Bay Area.

    1. the landlord and real estate cartel that is attacking rent control is making it difficult, or, next to impossible to find housing. Stupidity and laziness? You must be describing qualities that you yourself possess.

  2. I'm currently one year away from a CS degree and gainful employment at one of these firms. I think I'll look for work in San Diego!
