In the event of recent news reports and the potential repercussions on MtGox's operations and the market, a decision was taken to close all transactions for the time being in order to protect the site and our users. We will be closely monitoring the situation and will react accordingly.
Best regards,The best thing that could happen to Mt Gox at the present time is for a further crash of the Bitcoin price, so that bitcoins can be bought on the cheap to replace those that are missing. The same holds to some degree for any Mt Gox rescuers. It may not be entirely in their interest to see a crashing bitcoin price, but to the degree they will go into the market to buy bitcoins to replace those missing at Mt Gox, the lower the price the better.
