Of course, that number doesn't come close to the real money spent on the military in the US. There are all sorts of special appropriations and special bills and costs of previous wars that are not included in the regular budget. I once heard an argument from a Neocon justifying the amount of US military expenditure on the basis that the Chinese get more "bang for the buck". It's an ironic argument in light of Fed printing, but regardless does anyone think there's any truth in it?
The Chinese do more with less money in large part because they steal tech from the US with aggressive espionage and bribing. The US gov't. has also overseen the transfer of dangerous technology via the Clinton Administration. Additionally, when companies moved their manufacturing bases from the US to China, they also transferred their technology.... Lots of dumb moves by the West. Nice job funding and supplying the military rise of China.
