JOB SUMMARY:

Be a part of an organization where you'll count! This vacancy is for an Economist position, located at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) in Washington, DC.
The Recent Graduate Program is a one-year program that targets individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs.  Successful applicants will be placed in a dynamic, one year career development program.  Throughout the program, you will participate in formal training, job assignment and receive a mentor to develop competencies applicable to BEA's mission and needs.  This position is at grade 7 entry level, with an opportunity for permanent appointment upon successful completion of the program.
This position is responsible for compiling data using appropriate statistical techniques and performing economic research and documenting the results. The national economic accounts program provides a quantitative view of the U.S. domestic production, consumption, investment, exports and imports, and of national and domestic income and saving. It features the estimates of GDP, which is one of the most closely watched of all economic statistics.  Each month BEA releases quarterly estimates of GDP for the previous quarter and monthly estimates of personal income and outlays. BEA has been ranked by its employees as one of the top federal agencies for which to work. It has a dynamic and motivated staff, and encourages professional growth. BEA has an unparalleled location in the heart of downtown D.C., only blocks from the White House and within walking distance to three Metro lines. The Penn Quarter, Logan and Dupont Circles, and the Kennedy and Verizon Centers are allwithin walking distance. This position is in the competitive service.

One year probationary period may be required.
This is a non-bargaining unit position.
This vacancy announcement may be used to fill additional similar positions.
The full performance level for this position is the ZP-III ( equivalent to a GS-12).
This position is covered by an Alternative Personnel Management System (APMS). This system replaces the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and grades with career paths and pay bands.  This position is an Economist, ZP-110-II ( equivalent to a GS-7).

DUTIES:


The typical assignments for an Economist include, but aren't limited to
:
  • Prepare, revise, and analyze estimates of components of gross domestic product
  • Analyze economic data and develop estimates of economic statistics
  • Engage in research projects, recommend improvements to estimates and prepare documentation of estimates
  • Communicate with a variety of audiences in writing and in person
  • Develop computer applications to make estimates of economic statistics.
RW note: Go ahead take the job, be a mole, I need more sources inside government. Interview hint: Don't tell them you read EPJ and don't walk into the interview with this.

    1. The pay isn't too good considering it's your soul you are selling to take that job.

      Then again, maybe someone who takes such a job doesn't have a soul that's worth much anyway...maybe that's the market value of said soul.
