This is the Reason Why It Is Important to Make Clear...

...that protection by government police is largely a myth, that public school education plays a significant role in creating urban primitives and that roads would be more efficient and safer if handled by the private sector.

  1. And why confiscatory taxes are bad- because they end of in the hands of people like lizzy warren

  2. Of course, what Warren is pointing out here is sort-of true. However, the implication is that the government is the only institution capable of providing such services. It reminds me of a great retort I heard once against minarchism pointing out that if one believes the market is better in the case of shoes, cars, houses, etc. then the private sector would logically provide better roads, courts, and defensive protection, as well. Thus, it is imperative- because of the importance of those basic functions (which a minarchist will concede should be State functions)- to get the State out of roads, courts, and defense (and all other functions whatsoever).

Also, Warren leaves out a key part in this, namely, that every one of the "services" she says the factory owner is relying on is dependent on the private sector, as well. Where do you think the machinery, asphalt, paint, etc. come from to build the roads? How about the uniforms, guns, cars, tasers, (unfortunately) tanks, etc. come from which the police (unfortunately) say they require? How about the basketballs, books, and pencils the students rely on? If government were in charge of outfitting themselves with such things required to perform the "services" that have been monopolized by the State, there would be no roads, police, or government schools. Hey! Sounds great!!

    1. Edit for clarity:

"there would be no (government) roads, (government) police, or government schools."

  3. Not only did you not build it by yourself, you don't even really own it (society does). In other words, private property doesn't exist. She encapsulates the collectivist mindset perfectly. Clearly, socialism is the negation of property rights.

Starvation in this country is considered impossible. Yeah, right, give it time.

  5. She just made the case that people should be able to opt-out of all the government services forced upon us all.

I suppose it's all a matter of personal perspective. :)

Something tells me that this supposed chicken or the egg conundrum won't be sorted by her letting people opt out....and I'm sure she wouldn't address where the money came from that built the first gov't roads, police, etc.(which answers the question), too bad there wasn't one person in the room that could think independently and was brave enough to ask her.

  6. Is there a thorough debunking of her particular argument anywhere? I know what she is saying is wrong and stupid, but I am having a hard time coming up with a strong argument against her in this case.

I'd really like to make a debunking video to counter this nonsense.

    1. First, government doesn't have anything they didn't steal. Second, in the case of "public" goods, it's true, we were all (actually only some of us) forced to pay for these roads and schools. But then, that includes the entrepreneur. He payed for that crap too.

Here's an example which shows the absurdity of her logic:

Let's say we live in a town that gets no sunlight, because of a giant tree. We all pitch in, or are forced to pitch in, for the trees removal. Now we all get to enjoy the sunshine. If everyone just sits there, tanning themselves, and I decide to grow crops and sell them, how do I owe anyone anything?

  7. Same old collectivist dribble. Of course she fails to mention that the state is so great that if you don't "contribute"(taxes) to schools, roads, police etc. you get thrown in jail.

[sarcasm] Always looking out for the people eh Liz [\sarcasm]

  8. She operating under the most prevalent false assumption that we face today: capitalism is a zero sum game.

The most hilarious part about it is that whenever politicians talk about infastructure spending, the rational is to improve the economy. Then she goes and attacks the people involved in the economic activity, which supposedly sprang from the infrastructure.
