When I was a teenager (in 1984), I saved my paper route money for a new Apple IIe, which came with 64K of memory. 64K. I later expanded it to 128K to play a particular set of games from Infocom. That expansion cost about $200.
Today, I have a very nice custom tower PC that has 16GB of memory. That's 250,000 times as much memory. The Apple's floppy disks held 143K of information. My current hard drive holds 1TB. Adjusted for inflation, that Apple IIe cost more than my current PC - $2735 (in 2014 dollars) for the Apple vs. $2262 for my current PC.
I am just amazed the rate at which we have expanded our technological capabilities and in that regard, I'm very interested to see where we are in five, ten, or even twenty years into the future.
