In a newly surfaced video, one of Obamacare’s architects admits a “lack of transparency” helped the Obama administration and congressional Democrats pass the Affordable Care Act. The conservative group American Commitment posted Jonathan Gruber’s remarks, reportedly from an Oct. 17, 2013, event, on YouTube.
“Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage,” says the MIT economist who helped write Obamacare. “And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical for the thing to pass.”
Note: What he calls "lack of transparency" is really about deception. It goes well beyond a lack of transparency. It is a deliberately designed method of promoting Obamacare so that it would have the support of the fooled masses. It is part of what Hayek warned about in his chapter, Why The Worst Get on Top, in his book, The Road to Serfdom.

This is a perfect summation of the left. The end justifies the means, you're too stupid to know what's good for you, and do what we tell you or we'll kill you.
ReplyDeleteAfter a judge ruled the law provided subsidies only for State Exchanges, not Fed ones, he said the law always intended subsidies be provided for Fed Exchanges; however, during or soon after passage he said the law intentionally only subsidies State Exchanges to force the states to provide them under citizen pressure. Whatever else this man is, he is politician material.

ReplyDelete1. Government lies about all of its programs. It lies about its wars and it lies about all the costs associated with its social-welfare programs. So instead of just focusing on Obamacare, anti-government activist should point out that this is just another case of the government lying to people and why it shouldn't be trusted with any power.
2. If a private sector company purposely oversold and under delivered on a product or service, the public, the press, and the government would demand that the CEO of the company be perp walked to prison. If any chief executive for a company purposely lied about it financial performance, the people, the press, and the government would demand that those responsible be perp walked to jail. When government lies, why doesn't anyone expect the same? This is just another example of how the government holds itself to a lower moral standard than it does for everyone else.
UUUUUUUUGGGGGGG!!!!! I guess there is really nothing to say at this point. If this went viral and everybody got outraged it would be one thing. But, it will, like Huxley's novel predicted, get lost in a sea of irrelevance. How depressing. Time to check out, hook up the boat, head to the coast and fish to the end. Adios Amigos!

ReplyDeleteMore fundamentally, among the many other advantages of AnCap, contractual promises contained in contracts for government-type services would be enforceable. Fraud and misrepresentation are breaches of such contracts for which the victim could obtain damages and/or rescission in court. Alternatively, one cannot now sue a lying politician for detrimental reliance and/or fraud regarding their false promises.
ReplyDeleteFurther, the biggest impediment to enforcing contracts presently is the insane GOVERNMENT civil litigation system and the horde of incompetent, biased and corrupt GOVERMENT judges (who are immune from suit for failing to perform their appropriate duties).
