Obama Proposes Free Community College

What a terrible idea, the same organization, government, that fails at providing consistent grade school education, Obama wants to use to expand post-high school useless education, coupled, no doubt, with useless politically correct propaganda.

"Put simply, what I'd like to do is to see the first two years of community college free for everybody who is willing to work for it," Obama said in a video message released by the White House last week.

And the cost!!

Administration officials declined to offer a cost estimate, although they said states would have to pay about a quarter of the expense.

They added that 9 million students could benefit annually, and the average tuition savings for a full-time student at a public two-year college would be $3,800 a year. Students would have to meet certain criteria, such as attending school at least half-time and maintaining at least a 2.5 grade point average.

Cecilia Munoz, Obama's domestic policy adviser, said the president wants to "make two years of college the norm – the way high school is the norm."

  1. This Obama ploy is about just one thing: keeping the next couple of cohorts of fresh high school graduates - who would otherwise have bleak employment prospects in a moribund job market - off the unemployment rolls, by putting them into "custodial" status in community colleges - at least through the 2016 elections.

    1. That and the young will see "free education" and think the Democrats are just the best, most kindest political party in the world.

  2. This is super bad news for my last 4 kids who are still in high school and below because all my older kids used the community college route of transferring 70 credit to a state university for a 4 yr degree. They were all able to get their 1st degree debt free. It has gotten progressively harder as more people are forced into this route and now that the feds are getting involved it will probably become more expensive. In 2004 until 2010 community college was free for high schoolers with unrestricted access. Now high schoolers pay and are restricted to useless classes. We could get around the restriction by passing the chspe (in CA) and using AP courses in high school to earn college credits making part time enrollment while working easier. After 70 credits are transferred its easier to get those crucial paid internships with a solid work history. The Internships and work history are really key to getting a job after graduation not the degree. You would think people would understand this by now.

    1. One of the conditions is the courses have to be transferable to a local university, but with the grade inflation caused by another requirement for the college to get the subsidy, it will probably not be the case that universities will accept these credits and students begin showing up unprepared.

  3. Awesome! So more students can major in Queer Studies without thinking about the financial impact on their lives!

  4. If you're going to raise the minimum wage and cause unemployment in the young, i suppose you ought to find something for them to do aside from running around causing trouble.

  5. Community colleges already suffer from the highest loan delinquency rates and drop out rates. Students don't take it seriously... it feels like 2 more years of high school and many lose focus and motivation. How does this proposal deal with these issues?
