It doesn't look like Robert DeNiro is a big fan of paying taxes
The IRS has filed aa $6.4 million tax lien against him, reports NyPo..
DeNiro has an estimated worth of over $200 million, and has major ownership stakes in properties in LA, London, and throughout Tribeca, including Nobu, TriBeCa Grill, The Greenwich Hotel and TriBeCa Productions.
The lien was assessed in November with the city Department of Finance.
Wesley Snipes served 3 years in prison (2010-2013) for the same thing.
ReplyDeleteNot even close. Mr. Snipes refused to pay taxes, citing some anti-tax mumbo-jumbo.
DeleteMr. DeNiro apparently didn't pay enough. Significant difference.
Maybe some IRS agent wants to get him in a room and tell him "I told you you stupid xxx, don't xxx with me. Look at you now".
ReplyDeleteMaybe Al Sharpton can share with him how not to pay your taxes and avoid tax liens.
ReplyDeleteWesley Snipes went to jail for tax evasion, very different from this. If this were a tax evasion case, the government would most likely do a jeopardy assessment and seize his property.
They also did it to Snipes to make an example out of him because he had stumbled into and was somewhat knowledgeable about the sketchy, but important, anti-tax movement.
DeleteIn DeNiro's case, this looks like a purely administrative grievance, no political axe to grind. And look how fast he complied, too.
Thats why the go after these whales, it will be widely publicized. And another public professed statist is shown they are more anti-tax than they reveal. A champion of the state is now to be tormented by the state. How fitting.
