Whatever Happened to Silver Coins?

Richard Ebeling emails:

Dear Bob,

I participated in the September 15, 2015 “Libertarian Angle,” webinar sponsored by the Future of Freedom Foundation, with the Foundation’s president, Jacob G. Hornberger, on the topic of, “Whatever Happened to Silver Coins.”

The discussion focused on the consequences of America’s move away from a commodity currency, such as gold or silver, to a purely fiat, or paper, money in the 20th century. This included a critical summary of Federal Reserve policies over the last one hundred years that have generated the instability of booms and busts, inflations and recessions, including the Great Depression of the 1930s.

We examined the alternative of a private competitive banking system in place of the current central banking systems, and how it could provide a better and more effective financial system in a free society.
