Companies Offering the Biggest Paychecks

(via Glassdoor)

Why so many consulting and tech companies on this list?

“This report reinforces that high pay continues to be tied to in-demand skills and higher education, which in part, is why we see several companies on this list among the consulting and technology industries,” said Dr. Andrew Chamberlain, Glassdoor Chief Economist. “Salaries are sky-high at consulting companies due to ‘barriers of entry’ in this field, which refers to employers wanting top consultants to have personal contacts, reputations and specialized skills and knowledge. In technology, we continue to see unprecedented salaries as the war for talent is still very active, largely due to the ongoing shortage of highly skilled workers needed.”

  1. So you're implying that women who get queer gender studies degrees may not earn as much as men who get engineering/technology type degrees? That's sexist and a microaggression! The gov't should remedy this somehow!

  2. My brother works at an energy "consulting" firm. He spent 7 years getting a four year degree, then you could barely find anything making $40,000. Then he moved to D.C. and lo and behold he found a job working at a "green" consulting company and makes 6 figures. Almost all the clients are schools, prisons, government buildings, etc.
An interesting anecdote, he has seen about 5 people over the course of his time there promoted to V.P. and within two months of their promotion they have quit and started their own consulting firms. Once these V.P's get their own stable of clients to support them and are able to make more than what they are earning they realize they can do it themselves without a boss.
