They know Obamacare is a trainwreck. Top Hillary Clinton adviser and current president of the Center for American Progress, Neera Tanden, wrote in a February 2015 email (my highlights) that Hillary shouldn't focus on defending Obamacare that it is causing an increase in costs for the middle class:
Hi all,
I'd like to offer an additional policy idea on health care. My recommendation would be to not have HRC focus her health care views on the ACA itself, but to offer new ideas assuming the ACA is here to stay; talk past it so to speak so she doesn't get sucked into a debate on its merits.
I'm attaching a CAP paper just put out on our proposal to redress rising out of pocket costs for all employees (not in the ACA).
As part of our middle class squeeze work we found that health care costs for individuals have risen despite national health care expenditures leveling off; so costs have shifted from employers to employees. The paper documents the cost shift and how employers and providers have benefitted from national health expenditures and specifies a few policies, including increased transparency.
Offering up for the mix of ideas.
Neera
