Red Cross Calls Britain's Socialized Medicine 'Humanitarian Crisis'

File under: Socialized healthcare in action

The Red Cross has warned of a “humanitarian crisis” while the British Medical Association (BMA) said the Government should be “ashamed” of the situation, reports The Daily Mail.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has demanded that the Prime Minister comes to the Commons on Monday to explain the “scandal” in the English health and social care system.
The British Red Cross said it has stepped in to help the NHS in England deal with the increased demand put on the service over the colder months.

The charity’s chief executive, Mike Adamson, said extra cash was needed for health and social care to make the system sustainable.

BMA head Dr Mark Porter said: “This intervention from the Red Cross highlights the enormous pressure the NHS is currently facing as conditions in hospitals across the country are reaching a dangerous level.

“The Government should be ashamed that it has got to the point where volunteers have been necessary to ease the burden.

“The devastating consequences of the lack of commitment to funding for health and social care have become all too apparent and patients are enduring one of the worst winters on record. Staff are working flat-out in extremely difficult conditions.”

  1. The only time I have heard of people actually "dying in the streets" from lack of medical care is with government- run systems like the VA hospital.

    Private donations to the rescue.

Au contraire, doc. More volunteers would be a very good thing.

  3. Socialized Medicine is going to cause problems where ever it is, but a huge part of the problem in the UK is the immigration of millions of indigent people.

"And if it weren't for you meddling indigent immigrants, I could've gotten away with it!"

When they say preposterous things or even when not, Trumpistas still sound like the villains in a scooby-Doo cartoon. They're cartoonish themselves.

    2. Its true. Every socialist system has issues with more tax consumers than tax payers, but the UK is bringing in tax consumers directly from foreign countries.

    3. I agree that one of the many bugs of socialism is its inflexibility when it comes to accommodating immigrants (or any demographic change, really.) It's no coincidence that Bernie Sanders, like Trump, is a segregationist when it comes to immigration. The addition of more people tends to mess up "the plan."
