BREAKING: Trump to make shutdown announcement this afternoon

Updates below: Trump to open government

The White House has announced that President Donald Trump will make remarks at 1:30 p.m. ET in the Rose Garden regarding the partial government shutdown.

Multiple sources say the White House and Congress are considering a short-term spending bill that would temporarily reopen the government and give negotiators time to work out a larger immigration and border security deal, according to Politico. Still, it wasn't immediately clear exactly what the president would announce, and multiple people cautioned that the timing and substance of any potential deal could change.

Trump to open government for three weeks.

The House passed legislation by voice vote to re-open the federal government through Feb. 15 without providing money for President Donald Trump's wall.

Trump is expected to quickly sign the bill, ending the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
