Veronique de Rugy: "Fools like me who believed that President Trump would 'drain the swamp.'”

Veronique de Rugy, a senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, writes in The New York Times:
Fools like me who believed that President Trump would “drain the swamp” in Washington have been enduring one disappointment after another. For the latest, he has exerted political pressure so the swampiest agency in town, the Export-Import Bank, can be restored to its full potential.

For nearly four years the Senate leadership blocked confirmation votes to fill the vacancies on Ex-Im’s board, depriving it of the quorum needed to authorize deals over $10 million. Sadly, Senate Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell and with the help of nearly all Democrats, are expected to end their blockage this week by confirming Kimberly Reed as the head of the bank and two other nominees to the board.

As a candidate Mr. Trump was anti-Ex-Im. Then as president he started calling the bank, which provides different forms of financing to encourage American exports, “a very good thing.”

  1. Many Trump supporters are scratching their heads. Trump seems to have abandoned virtually every policy he campaigned on. On the plus side, he has been doing a not horrible job with judicial appointments. I don't really ascribe nefarious purposes to his flips. I just thing that the people who told us that Trump has no core values were right all along. Any other thoughts here?

    1. Yes, I agree totally. No core values. I remember telling a conservative acquaintance during the Republican primaries that I liked Trump out of the whole lot of them, but that Trump was "all over the place" in his thinking. I proceeded to vote for him strategically as against Clinton. What very little hope I had for him vanished when he finally started filling his cabinet.

    2. I will vote for Trump again, because after all, what choice do we have? Maybe unless Tulsi miraculously gets the nomination.

    3. Yep, I voted for him as well. He is a classic bull shit artist. He lies in a way that would make a door to door pots and pans salesman blush. I had only a little hope for him. He has succeeded in obliterating even that. But after-all he wasn't Hillary. Or was he?

    4. Robert What? "I will vote for Trump again, because after all, what choice do we have?"

      Why vote at all?

    5. When voting for president, at least for the last three cycles, I've simply written in Ron Paul.

I'll probably continue to do so as long as he's alive. Or, I'll substitute Rand.

  2. As I read this, I think of my poor childhood friend (former Ron Paul supporter, now TrumpTard), who ended our friendship just because I didn’t like Trump. The orange man is good at brainwashing.
