Kevin Hassett |
Hassett said in an interview Sunday night that his departure was unrelated to the escalating trade conflict, reports The Washington Post.Kevin Hassett, who has done such a great job for me and the Administration, will be leaving shortly. His very talented replacement will be named as soon as I get back to the U.S. I want to thank Kevin for all he has done - he is a true friend!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 3, 2019
But you have to wonder if Trump's numerous brain-shattering economic moves in directions away from sound economic policy have finally taken their toll.
In April, Hassett refused to endorse Trump's pleas for the Federal Reserve to slash interest rates.
"It's not my job at CEA to give the Fed advice," Hassett told CNN at the time. "My job at CEA is to remind people to respect the independence of the Fed."
Or it could be worse. Maybe as an insider, Hassett sees clouds developing as a result of Trump policies that will only make things worse for the economy and he doesn't want to be around for it.
According to the Post, Hassett said that he informed the president of his plans to leave during a conversation in the White House last week, and that he will stay in the position for about another month.

It's easy to be pessimistic when we hear people say "My job at CEA is to remind people to respect the independence of the Fed."
