Rep. Rashida Tlaib Calls for $20-an-Hour Minimum Wage

Rashida Tlaib
Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., called for a federal minimum wage of $20 per hour at an event in Detroit on Sunday night, reports Fox News.

Tlaib strikes me as the intellectual lightweight of The Squad. They are all shaky but she must put extra effort into it.

This is how she justified the $20  minimum wage:

It should be $20 an hour -- $18 to $20 an hour at this point. ... They say all of this is going to raise the cost, but I can tell you, milk has gone up, eggs have gone up, everything has gone up. The cost of a lot of things that we need has gone up already.
Try drawing a supply and demand curve using that logic.

It should be noted that the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) recently concluded that a $15 federal minimum wage could result in 3.7 million people becoming unemployed. It has not, yet, done a study of how many more would become unemployed because of a $20 minimum wage.

In October 2013, I discussed the problems with the minimum wage before a radical leftist anarchist group in Oakland. California.

  1. Absolutely no intellectual curiosity about what has caused the prices of groceries to go up. This is of a piece with Krugman's observation in 2009 that we don't need to spend valuable time figuring what caused the recession, the government just has to take action to get us out of it. (Did I just liken Krugman with Tlaib?)

  2. Curiously, Tlaib is not arguing that milk sellers and egg collectors are gouging people with higher prices but that the problem is people not making enough money to buy higher-priced milk and eggs. The point is that the woman is not that dense; her goal is to impose a $20-hour minimum wage because it sounds nice, not because it makes sense. If she really wanted to see a world where egges and milk are more affordable, she would push for policies that wouod make it less burdersome for producers to produce and sell more milk and eggs. But where's the fun in that, right?

  3. Now that they are getting $15 in some places it's time to push for $20. When they get $20 then $25, and so on. That's how they figure what to demand, something higher than the last demand.
