President Trump summoned Federal Reserve Chair Jerome H. Powell to the White House this morning, reports the Washington Post.
This comes only a few weeks after Trump labeled Powell a “bonehead,” a “terrible communicator” and an “enemy.”
The Fed released a statement after the meeting, indicating that Fed monetray policy would be determined by incoming economic data.
"He did not discuss his expectations for monetary policy, except to stress that the path of policy will depend entirely on incoming information that bears on the outlook for the economy," the statement said.
Trump tweeted:
The meeting was in the White House residence, not the Oval Office, a White House official told WaPo. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin was also present.Just finished a very good & cordial meeting at the White House with Jay Powell of the Federal Reserve. Everything was discussed including interest rates, negative interest, low inflation, easing, Dollar strength & its effect on manufacturing, trade with China, E.U. & others, etc.— Donald J.
