Developing Danger to America's Meat Supplies Because of Draconian COVID-19 Shutdowns by Government Officials

The junior power freaks are really getting out of control now (as if they weren't already).

Smithfield Foods, one of world’s largest protein companies, just announced shutting down operations at a major plant in South Dakota after urging from state and federal authorities amidst a hotspot of positive COVID-19 cases in its workforce.

The company supplies nearly 130 million servings of food per week, or about 18 million servings per day.

“The closure of this facility, combined with a growing list of other protein plants that have shuttered across our industry, is pushing our country perilously close to the edge in terms of our meat supply. It is impossible to keep our grocery stores stocked if our plants are not running. These facility closures will also have severe, perhaps disastrous, repercussions for many in the supply chain, first and foremost our nation’s livestock farmers. These farmers have nowhere to send their animals,” said Kenneth M. Sullivan, president and chief executive officer, for Smithfield.

“Unfortunately, COVID-19 cases are now ubiquitous across our country. The virus is afflicting communities everywhere. The agriculture and food sectors have not been immune. Numerous plants across the country have COVID-19 positive employees. We have continued to run our facilities for one reason: to sustain our nation’s food supply during this pandemic. We believe it is our obligation to help feed the country, now more than ever. We have a stark choice as a nation: we are either going to produce food or not, even in the face of COVID-19,” he concluded.

According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, there is no evidence of food or food packaging being associated with the transmission of COVID-19.

  1. "The plant was the site of an outbreak of covid-19 cases. The Associated Press on April 10 quoted South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as saying there were 190 cases tied to an outbreak at the site."

Hope they can resolve the issues that led to the outbreak and resume the operations soon.

  2. Just when I thought South Dakota might be a safe haven for rational people as the governor refused to issue a general shut-down order. The hysteria is invasive.

  3. Lord helps the millions who will die for a lie....

A recent German study that took into account all the untested, asymptomatic coronavirus cases said the fatality rate is more like 0.37% or on par with a bad flu outbreak

This kind of mass hysteria and fear and resulting ruin is obviously being fostered now solely for political gain....

  4. This is not to minimize the issue with the plant closure (or to give the petty government tyrants more credit than is due) but the client I work with is also having to close a similar type food processing plant. They anticipate two weeks closure, then immediately resuming operations. Apparently, it is not unheard of in the industry so let's hope for quick turnaround, Godspeed to better business days, and to hell with petty tyrants everywhere (and that Robert's PPS ideas take further root).

  5. Smithfield Foods, Inc., is a meat-processing company based in Smithfield, Virginia, in the United States, and a wholly owned subsidiary of WH Group of China. Founded in 1936 as the Smithfield Packing Company by Joseph W. Luter and his son, the company is the largest pig and pork producer in the world.

  6. Isn't Smithfield owned by the Chinese Communists now?

  7. So who cares if Chinese own it? I like to eat so get government out of the way so they can process meat....

  8. If Smithfield offers healthy protein products this is another case of going in the wrong direction if the purpose is health in general and specifically a healthy immune system against viruses. “Harnessing the beneficial effects of a ketogenic diet through gamma delta T cells may offer a potential previously unrecognized avenue for influenza disease prevention and treatment.”

Part of the war against meat?

  9. The President needs to kick Fauci's ass to the curb and put this MIT doc in his place: Fauci is Jack the Ripper from Dr. Strangelove.
