AOC: ‘Let’s Also Do Away with This Mythology that the Ultra-Wealthy Move Away Due to High Taxes’

In the clip below, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez provides an object lesson in cluelessness about the wealthy.

She says, "Let’s also do away with this mythology that the ultra wealthy move away due to high taxes."

There are all types of wealth profiles, some would prefer to stay in the area they currently live in and pay higher taxes, others do choose to move out of high tax areas.

Late last year, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, in AOC's home state,  blamed wealth flight for the New York’s $2.3 billion revenue shortfall in December and January of 2019.

“Tax the rich, tax the rich, tax the rich,” he said. “We did. Now, God forbid, the rich leave.”

  4. The rich don't have to move away; they can reorganize their affairs to minimize the impact of high taxes, and/or lobby their buddies in government for "loopholes."

  6. It is remarkable that she would make this argument when, besides being an Econ major in college, her mom literally left New York over the high property taxes. Her mom explicitly says she left over taxes and taxes alone and outlined her tax savings.
