McConnell Unveils HEALS Act With $1,200 Stimulus Checks

Mitch McConnell
Late Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell unveiled the Republican HEALS act, the latest government COVID-19 "stimulus" package.

The act includes another round of $1,200 stimulus checks.

Adults earning up to $75,000 get the full $1,200, but adults earning more would get smaller amounts. Just like the last round of checks, those who earn over $99,000 would not receive any payment.

In addition to the stimulus checks, federal unemployment checks will continue but with caps at 70 percent of pre-pandemic pay. That is, combined state and federal checks would be combined to not equal more than 70% of the previous wage.

This time the package will also include extra cash for people with adult dependents.

Payments of $500 per dependent will be made to those who qualify and who have dependents — adult or child.

McConnell said the bill in its entirety would cost about $1 trillion.

Now the battle begins with the Democratic-controlled House that has passed a $3 trillion package.

McConnell dismissed the Democratic plan as  a “multi-trillion-dollar socialist manifesto.”

I note once again that the federal government has no money for any package and whatever passes will result in money being printed out of thin air by the Federal Reserve.

HEALS is an acronym for health, economic assistance, liability and schools, McConnell said.

  1. So is this 70% percent of pre-pandemic pay "in addition" to normal unemployment?

  4. "McConnell dismissed the Democratic plan as a “multi-trillion-dollar socialist manifesto.”"

-- So $3T in giveaways is "socialist," but $1T is not. Thanks for clarifying that, Mitch.
