The latest indication is that the explosion that killed at least 50 and injured thousands was caused by an estimated 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate left for years without “preventative measures” in a warehouse, Lebanon PM Diab says.

That is a classic BLEVE. Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion.
ReplyDeleteJust like the Texas City TX explosion in 1947, 2200 tons of ammonium nitrate. It blew a 10 ft. diameter boat propeller 1 mile inland.
